Cheques
« on: March 21, 2013, 14:29:01 PM »
I thought this might be an interesting topic, I was recently looking through some of my old papers, statements etc, and came across my cheque book, I found that the last cheque I signed was September 2007. do any of my fellow CBF members still use cheques or know anyone that does these days, thinking about it I cant think of anyone I know that does now.

I still have a business cheque book and use cheques quite a lot.  The Post Office will accept cheques from businesses. The way it works is you fill in a form and apply to the P.O. after they check you out they issue you with a guarantee card to the value of, say £500.   Then when you pay by cheque at the P.O. you just show your card. This facility can only be used at one desinated Post Office.
I also accept cheques from customers who I know well, if I don't know the customer I explain I have to wait until the cheque clears to release the goods.
I think it's a shame that cheques are going to be withdrawn.  For example my son is a plumber, he does not have a credit card machine, which means customers have to pay him cash or give him a cheque. Lots of older people do not want to draw large amounts out of their bank account and feel safer using cheques.

I still use cheques frequently - paying the window cleaner etc. and I always give cheques for Christmas and birthday presents for the family.

Until 2 years ago, I was a bursar in a very large school and all of our invoices were paid by printing out cheques. :o

I pay £7.50 twice a year for my ground rent  :D If they gave me account numbers I'd do it online.

Still use cheques for Christmas/birthday gifts.
Also subscriptions to smaller organisations/smaller charities/small business payments.
I would be sorry to see them go.

I use cheques for the business sometimes and accept them from customers.I have a card machine but some customers still insist on cheques but with card machines coming out for smart phones I think the days are numbered for cheques

My brother in law always gives the kids cheques for Christmas. Its a pain because we never go to the bank.
