Contents/Buildings insurance
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:31:24 AM »
When renting in Calis I assume that buildings insurance is the responsibility of the owner
and organised by him/her or the agent ?
Contents insurance would obviously be the responsibility of the tenant (any recommendations
for insurance companies please ?) A rough idea of cost would also be useful   :)     Thanks.

If you are renting without furniture I would assume your tenant would have to insure his belongings.
We don't have tenants and we insure  house and contents with a British Company called Intasure  http://www.intasure.com/index.asp?introducer=202926
One problem insuring with Turkish Companies is, with contents you have to keep all receipts or they will not pay out, also, they never seem to give you the value of the goods.  My neighbour was robbed and said he only got a fraction of the costs of his goods.  This is why we went with a British Company, although it is more expensive than going with a Turkish Company.
Remember you also need Earthquake Insurance .   ;)
It's difficult to give you costings as we all have different insurance needs, best to get some quotes ;D

I don't think a tenant will need Earthquake Insurance. That is for the owner to sort surely?

Not earthquake but will need insurance for personal items, also Intasure will not insure for people living in Turkey.

Hiya

We rent unfurnished and have contents insurance. Our landlord pays the earthquake part.

Our policy was 200tl . We asked for a better policy to include water damage, but were told there are no policies that cover leaking roofs and that the policy they've given is is the most inclusive there is.

We are with AXA , their office is next door to Mc Donald's and Dinah speaks perfect English.

We do our car insurance there too and got a discount on that at renewal because we have contents insurance too we assume.

Thanks Kayakebab - useful feedback.
(Hoping not to need to claim on the 'earth moving' insurance   ;) )
