Thanks Fran. If I've not managed with Garanti in the next week I'll sort it out when I'm over from 2nd July.

Theres a shiny new Govt DASK (or rather TCIP) web site here..  http://www.tcip.gov.tr/

It explains in English exactly what is/is not covered:

TCIP indemnifies the material damages - which are caused by earthquakes and the fires, explosions, tsunami and landslide that are caused directly by the earthquake within the limits stated in your policy.

The building parts - which are mentioned below - are covered collectively or separately:

Foundations, Main walls, Common walls separating the independent sections, Garden walls, Retaining walls, Ceilings and basements, Stairs, Elevators, Platforms, Corridors, Roofs, Chimneys, Supplementary sections of the building which have similar qualities to those mentioned above.

In fact most things are covered except specifically - Debris removal costs

We still don't know what would happen on a partially covered site  ;)

Ian,

it goes on to explain that in the event of a claim, you get the money. Nothing about any rebuilding work.

So, I guess that means you decide to rebuild or ride off into the sunset and buy somewhere new.

Hope I never have the pleasure to find out if that works as smoothly as proposed   ;)
