Is the £ really strong against the Turkish Lira.
« on: July 19, 2013, 09:14:18 AM »
So they might try to increase the interest rate to strengthen the lira????? Supposedly the £ is strong against the Lira but inflation in Turkey does not make it as strong as it looks, cost of living here has increased drastically over the last 12 months alone especially in some key areas namely food, drink, fuel, but guess from a holiday point it does not look bad especially if tour operaters are slashing prices! The big question is if they do strengthen the Lira will inflation costs go down, I doubt it!

Almost always better to change Sterling to TL in Turkey.

During 20 years in Turkey I have never seen prices gone down. Only up.

And things never go up by 5% or 10%, they go up by 25%, 30% and sometimes 50%.

Unlike here, coins under 1 lira never seem to be used (except in the shops).  I know to us 50 kurus is not a lot but to a local on poor wages it is different.
