For a traditional Turkish BBQ with lots of meze (Dips and salads mainly made with veg) and great atmosphere I would highly recommend the friday evening BBQ at the Surf Cafe.  Food was excellent on of the best meze selections I have ever had in our time there

Whatever & whereever you eat DO NOT buy food & drink at Dalaman airport, unless you plan on taking out a 2nd mortgage!

I know what you mean, but the odd thing is that this place IS in the main area.  But the food is good and not dear.  So, I hope you find it.

For a snack, gozleme. Turkish pancakes that come with a variety of fillings: minced meat; potato, white cheese and pasley; or mushroom.

Try one of the traditional lokantas, you can go to the counter and order little bits of everything you like the look of, and its really cheap, so if you don't like something it doesnt really matter.
There are 2 really nice lokantas on the Gunlukbasi main road almost opposite the Polis station
