The subject of salads in Turkey is an intriguing one. I would say if you can rid your mind of the finely cubed cucumber/tomato/onion style, the amazing traditional "spoon salad" of the likes of Ocakbasi is a saladacious education.
I am also regularly shocked to see how much effort every day gents such as builders and complex workers put into the preparation of meals for all male consumption. Where most of us blokes would cut the tomato in half, slice a cucumber into half inch discs and rip off a few lettuce leaves, Turkish men prepare a perfectly diced fine salad, even when there isn't a woman in sight.
