I might be telling you something you already know BUT:
You can call land line and mobile numbers from the UK
for pennies and I mean PENNIES per minute. Dial 0844
303 7777 and wait for the instruction to enter the number
you want. Tried and tested to extreme when I was in the
UK. My 'local' calls were £21.79 and there were few of them
BUT my calls to friends in Calis, Istanbul, Izmir etc and there
were MANY, cost less than £2. If memory serves me well, it was
£1.71.

Another cheap one is Delight Mobile. You get a free sim and it costs only 1p a minute to landlines and mobiles in Turkey.

I use Skype to call land line numbers in the UK and Greece. Last year I added £10 credit in July and without being stingy I still had credit at the end of October and I had been making regular calls. I understand that if the person you're calling has Skype and the internet, it's free but the payment option is excellent too. :)

Via SYKPE you can call ANY telephone, mobile or not. Some numbers will not accept calls, I discovered that the DVLA will not, but the NHS does. 8)
