quite a few scooter shops in Fethiye, you probably cant afford the Honda, twice that price, but look at the others you should get a decent one for that amount.

Bike shop opposite side to Honda shop (other side of canal) near Ford garage, very reasonable and the guy speaks excellent english.
We got our 125cc there 2100TL on the road including insurance, 2 helmets and top box.

I have just bought a (Chinese) Vesta from Deniz Motor on the Baris Manco Bulevard in Calis.
Total price 2,250 TL for 150cc scooter, helmet, storage box, insurance, 2 years guarantee, road tax, etc.
Th guy is called Abo (Abdulah) & is extremely pleasant & helpful.
Regarding Chinese verses Japanese, you pays your money & you takes your choice. Yamaha = Rolls Royce, Chinese = Ford?

If you're going to buy a scooter and you don't want to pay a lot, but you don't also want to be in trouble and spend your time in services... Go and buy KYMCO. (They are not Chinese :)
Make a researc in the web, KYMCO has very high sales numbers and a lot of satisfied customers. You can buy Agility or Agility city models.
I don't know the Fethiye dealer but you can find the number on the web too.

Sorry to ask again, but do you need to have residency to purchase a scooter and if so does anyone know a way around it?

Just had this back from The embassy:
Dear Mr Clancy
You are allowed to buy a car or a motorcycle in Turkey if you wish to export. If you wish to buy and ride your motorbike in Turkey you must register your motorbike with the local traffic police. The local police would ask you to submit your residency permit.
Therefore, you need a residency in order to buy and ride your motorbike in Turkey.
Yours sincerely
