interesting article.....but of course Olu Deniz Municipality does cover all of Olu, Hisaronu and Ovacik....be interesting to see what happens next...as the deputy mayor states they, the council, have to carry out the order as its instructions from Mulga, if not council officials could face up to 5 years in prison. :o...a worrying time for all concerned.
-
"The time is up now. I hope we shall not be obliged to carry out the demolishment, because approximately 150 buildings are involved, which means that Ölüdeniz will be in ruins"
Sounds awful and not unlike what has been happening in parts of Spain for years - local councils give planning permission (sometimes retrospectively) and then regional government knock the buildings down.
In my mind the local councils have to take more responsibility for this mess as surely not all checks were made correctly before allowing these buildings to be erected (have they got Tapu?). Yet it's the owners who have to foot the demolition bill.
What next - touristic land with the wrong buildings erected?
Worrying times for locals and foreign home owners alike.

A small Turkish house has already been demolished near me. It was in the garden of a larger house and was a one storey building, looked a bit like a garden shed. The owner rented it out to a British couple who found it comfortable and they had four days notice to leave. The owners family arrived in two dolmus's and took all the couple's belongings to a nice apartment which is where they are now.
The area where the building once stood is now back to being a garden.
-
It looks like they are adopting a tougher approach?
I found this link on a Marmaris forum as we had been there in October and we heard that they had knocked down a lot of buildings where we stayed.

Hi Ian. You tube is banned in Turkey so we can't watch your link. You will have to get used to this sort of thing!! Is it still snowing??
-
If you want to view Youtube in Turkey without using a proxy it's very simple to make a couple of adjustments to the settings on your PC
-
Sorry Anne - forgot - it is pretty sad footage of an area of the promenade just after the bulldozers had finished.

That's unbelievable! If it's 10% of that in Olu then it will be devastated. Anyone seeing that won't bother with Marmaris this year.

surley the lacal government are complicite? if they are charging and taking local taxes stc from the builders, and these buildings have not just jumped out of the ground like snowdrops have they so the local authority should foot the bill, I thought all new builds had to meet standardsfor earth quakes ie solid metre thick base and have approval.or is this just another case of Mugla getting at the Mayor who was elected for the second term by the people.

Any news on the Kaya situation Alan

I fail to see how the council cannot be held responsible, they must have given building permission on the whole. If the plans were illegal, then permission should not have been given to start the building works.
-
Thanks for that link Kaya, I was talking to a taxi driver the other day who told me about this, he owns a villa in marmaris and goes there 4/5 times a year in groups of 40 +, and has put it up for sale they are all going to Goa instead, so theres one family and friends, when multiplied, leaves a 200 + visitors per year down, mad innit.

If people are not heading to Marmaris & the council are knocking down 150 buildings in Olu Deniz, will the Fethiye council follow suit? There has been a lot of building in Fethiye/Calis over the past couple of years; how do you know if your HOME will be next? The Zabita have already had a go at us for an illegal extension which was put up before we bought. We had to foot the bill for alterations. Getting worried!!
-
Please excuse this potentially stupid question it is just that I am a little nervous about my current Ovacik apartment purchase reading this thread .... "If I am in receipt of the Tapu is demolition still a possibility"?
Kevin

If you have any doubts, contact an independent solicitor to check things out. This might cost 1% of the money you are spending. It's pretty unlikely though. By the way - If you are in receipt of a tapu, you aren't currently purchasing an apartment, you have purchased it :)
Also, there are quite a few stories about people having to knock down illegal extensions that were present when they bought the property. other places where this is the law include the UK.
-
would i be right in assuming that if when you bought your property , you have had military clearance , then you should have nothing to worry about .
-
No, that has nothing much to do with the property you intend to buy.
-
There is a court case on 12th Feb by forestry for 3villas on 24 complex in Ovacik being illegaly built, all have their tapus, and they want them demolished and land returned to forestry
-
PKHughes. If you have a query contact Lycia as they should be able to check and reassure you. I would be highly suprised if they have sold you anything with land problems as they are one of the most trustworthy builders in the area.

Thanks, lots of good advice and I will certainly follow this up with Lycia, thanks again. (I am pleased to note the singing endorsement of them! that is reassuring in itself). I have not had the Tapu yet but will not be paying all the money (90% more) until I am in receipt of it and the Military Checks have all been done.
Fi, you appear to know Lycia well, did you purchase from them, I have found them really professional, what is your take? :)
Kevin
-
Yes we purchased land through them and then they worked with us to design our house and build it.
Everything went according to plan and schedule but we had our military permission when we bought the land and when we had paid the final payment we received our living permission & tapu within weeks.
Highly recommend them if you want honest and reliable builders.
