Title: Household goods/Residence Visa
Post by: Sus on November 14, 2011, 06:37:18 AM
Can anyone please tell me, if you get a Residence Permit/Visa but not living in Turkey full time, can you import household goods when you come to reside in Turkey, exp. if you get your Residence Permit/Visa  in July 2012 and then leave the country and  come to reside in Turkey March 2013 will there be any problem in shipping a container of household items over.

Also how long does it take to get a new car registered, can you get the car the same day you purchase it.

For a car you can certainly complete the purchase in a day (it took us 40 minutes) However if you buy a car registered to a turkish owner you have to have the number plates changed to foreign ones. You have a month to do this but someone else will have to tell you ho long this takes as my car isn't registered in Mugla (though we did the buying and selling paperwork here).

You need to speak to a company that specializes in shipping to Turkey - there are many laws - you can't be here too long in and you have to ship withing a certian time of taking up residence - whether that is just the permit or literal residence I don't know.  Also you permit has to have over a year on it when you ship so 2 years minimum.  Bonners were very helpful when I moved and I'm sure others can recommend other companies.   My choice was limtied in Wales as many people didn't want to come over the Severn Bridge to collect my stuff :-)

Hi Sus

I have sent you a PM with details of Dolphin Movers, who do have an agency handling removals from Doha to Turkey.
They were brilliant when I moved here from the UK.
Give them a try!

farmer

Hi Sus

We moved across from Doha in May.

Just 5 suitcases and the dog though, so no removal company.

Sold all the furniture as a job lot.

As i Understand it the above timings would give you problems - there are very strict rules about how long you have to import personal belongings so definitely best to get it checked out.

Thanks everyone for the info, Liz and Highlander, I think that article in the Sun Express is a bit out of date, I thought the deposit on household goods had been stopped, plus they state about pets and you cannot bring a bird into Turkey or any other country as airlines will not fly them since the bird flu epidemic.

Falcon I will check Dolphin Movers out here in Qatar and see what they say, I am still waiting a reply from one shipping company here and from the Turkish Embassy here in Doha.

Will let you all know what they say.

Thanks for all your help.

Just seems a bit odd that they should print it in the latest hard copy edition that I only picked up yesterday

Hi Liz,

I know very strange, but this first part of the sunexpress article I thought they stopped this in November 2009.

Quote from Sunexpress "You can ship your household or office goods into Turkey by the temporary import system, providing your residence visa is valid for more than a year. This system requires you to pay a deposit, which will be returned to you when you return to your home country. Alternatively, you can submit a bank guarantee letter that guarantees that duty will be paid on the goods if they are not taken out of the country at the end of the residence period" unquote.

I know you cannot fly a pet bird because we have one and have been told by three airlines that they do not ship birds and when I did a full check on the internet I found most countries in the world state that you cannot import a bird.

When we shipped our goods 5yrs ago, we used Ozcan Soyer as the Turkish agent at Izmir. I can highly recommend this guy. He was so efficient and kept us informed of everything that was happening at the time.We had to have a residency permit with a minimum of 2 yrs on it.
