Frinton-on-sea might be the better bet.

Not very helpful to a new member scorcher...

The situation is not as bad as it once was and I think the chances of it happening are quite small these days. Just be cautious, money/passports etc in the safe (assuming there is one) and don't leave the windows open when you go out - or are in the pool.

Just relax and enjoy your holiday  :)

There has only been 1 reported break in.  As long as you use the same security common sense you would in the UK you will be fine.  You can get all the information on this site;

Relax, lay back and enjoy your holiday.

I think the main thing is that you make sure that everyone in your party ensures that the place is secure when you go out (do not leave even one window open), and you need also to consider what access there is to the building while you are by your pool.  Think 'Fort Knox' and also don't divulge where you are staying, when you are out socialising.  At night, lock internal doors so that any possible intruder will make sound trying to open the doors and therefore alert you.  If you havent got a safe, take your passports with you when you go out.  Just be sensible, same as you would in the UK and have a fab time, its great here :D

Thanks Rindaloo,  I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about it now, phew!
We came to Turkey for the first time last October and were staying in Akbuk which was lovely but VERY quiet and although we like quiet where we are staying we do like to be close to shops, restaurants, shops, bars, markets and did i mention shops? We have hired a car for the 2 weeks  and i believe its about a 25 minute drive to Fethiye so the location sounds perfect for us.   :)
Only 17 weeks to wait and im on the internet constantly looking for outings, shopping areas, boat trips etc.
Any info or advice you can give would be very much appreciated. x

BishyBoo this is a great place to go for a day if you have a car, it is about 1 hour drive from Uzumlu, very easy to find, have a meal or a full day on the lake or horse riding swimming etc. http://www.akkayagarden.com/about-us.restaurant

Mark, that looks amazing and just the type of place that would appeal to us, thank you so much
Any more suggestions gratefully received, thanks again   :)
Does anybody know of any good maps of the area and street maps of Fethiye i can download?

There are so many places to visit in close proximity of Fethiye.  One of my favourites is Kabak with the most spectacular views  and you can get a nice meal at The Olive Garden.

Here is a link to 21 places to visit.

Thanks Marggie, thats brilliant info, just what we need.  Started a notebook to jot down all these suggestions, think out 2 weeks will be pretty full.  Cant wait!
Is September a good month to visit or is it still very busy?  :)

Mark, do you have directions to Akkaya Garden from Uzumlu as thats definitely in the notebook for a visit ?

September (and May) are the best months to visit in my opinion. Nice and sunny and warm without the punishing heat of July and August. Things are still open and in full swing.

Dont think i could take the heat of July/August but September seems so far away so have to content myself with trolling the internet and filling up my ''to visit'' book
Everything ive been told and read makes me think ive made a great choice for a holiday, even with my fears of a break in, although feel a bit more relaxed about that now after being given some sound advice here
Do you think we should bring enough money for the 2 weeks or rely on ATM's so dont have too much money either on us or in the villa?
Is there a bakery in Uzumlu to get fresh bread each morning?
sorry, so many questions !!!  ;)

Post by: Firo on May 17, 2013, 21:50:41 PM
There is a bakery in the village so fresh daily bread is assured. Bring enough money to see you through first few days and then withdraw more as needed there is an ATM in the village and plenty in Fethiye.
Definitely go up to Cadianda and spend a few hours wandering around this lost Lycian /Roman ruins on the mountain above Uzumlu. You'll most probably have the place top yourselves as very few tourists venture there but it is truly wonderful.
Venture to Oludeniz beach day and night for fabulous swimming and superb restaurants like The Buzz Bar
http://www.buzzbeachbar.com/
Go to Saklikent Gorge for a day out via Tlos and lunch at Yaka Park for fresh trout.
The list is endless and with a car there are some fab places to go.
Security is down to you to ensure you take all necessary precautions that have been mentioned above and never sleep with windows and doors open as that's an invite any where in the world. Oh and don't forget to spend some days just relaxing around the pool and catching a few rays  8)

Firo's reply reminded me of one of our most read topics - 9 (or more) pages on MUST do's in the Fethiye area. And yes, you must do them all or you will be detained at Dalaman and have your visa swiped.

I should of course mention that when it comes to things to do in Fethiye, places to eat in Fethiye, and Fethiye related information, you might find some ideas at www.fethiye.co.uk - a website written by a local genius.

Firo, thanks for the info on the bakery and ATM machine, i think your advice of drawing money as needed is sound
As for not leaving windows open at night - well thats a deffo no no as dont want unwelcome visitors in the form of mozzies !!!
Will definitely be visiting Yaka Park but how do you know you have found the original one as their website warns of a copycat one?

Scunner, thanks for the links, have made notes of what to do for the first timers, i take it B52's is a place to avoid ?

And the Fethiye link was great, wonder who the genius might be !

Going to have to re-think the A6 note book and upgrade to A4

Cin Bal restaurant is also a definite visit

Thanks again  for all the advice and suggestions :D

nasal problem maybe?   ;)

Now heres a suggestion that might help the nasal problem, try removing knotted hankie from head and giving it a good blow OR remove sandal and then the grey sock and give that a sniff!   ;)

When you head up from Tlos, you will see 'Yakapark' (to the right), -ignore it and head up to the next one along the road  (I think its called Original Yakapark).  You can see the entrance on this link.....http://yakapark.com/ (http://yakapark.com/)

We recently had a member called Mrs Hyacinth Bouquet. She was daffy as the daffiest loon in Loonland. I had to exclude her in the end for her own safety. Also for a bit of peace and quiet.

Bishy, it was hilarious in a kind of way but you had to be there....,
As far as money goes I'm like the Queen and never carry any, so can't help, but there are lots of people on here who can and will   :)

OH thanks so Scorcher is likening me to a loon , preferred it when i thought it was the one off the telly

Scorcher,  so because i was worried about break ins, im likened to a loon??????? weird comparison !

Post by: BishyBoo on May 20, 2013, 16:06:15 PM
well thanks to everyone who has given me some really good advice and tips

but as i seem to be the target of one persons nastiness in likening me to a member who had to be removed i wont be posting again

I had thought it best to treat the first sarcastic reply to my post as a bit of banter and responded as such but now realise that the Hyancinth remark was intended to be nasty and to get other members to view me as she was

Scunner i would appreciate it if you remove me as a member as i dont know how to

Really sad as i thought the forum to be a place like minded people could chat about their experiences and help others

Please will members realise that in order to be removed from the forum you just don't come back ever again. Removal does not and will never mean having removal as in all their posts removed too, it leaves us with topics that make no sense or people seemingly talking to themselves.

I'm not one for long lingering goodbyes, if you can't take a bit of gentle ribbing this really isn't the place for you.

Nothing is entirely definite in this game but I am fairly certain not. I agree there were striking similarities though  :)

People seem to want to make a big thing of not coming back. It's not a big thing, it's hardly a thing at all.
