Title: How can they justify this?
Post by: Ray1951 on June 14, 2013, 21:49:06 PM
I was checking the price of the Aymes Hotel in Calis for 10 days in August. Booking.com wanted £398 whilst lastcheck.com wanted £162 for the exact same booking.  Not everyone is able to trawl the internet to check these things but this is just ripping people off.  How can they justify this?

Unfortunately this is the way it goes now. There is never a fixed price for anything,be it holidays, insurance or a 3 piece suite. Its up to the buyer to find the best price."Thank God for the internet".

Absolutely right Chris. In fact, there never was - but it took the Internet to make us realise it!

I always check with trivago, who check prices for hotels from most companies, and finds the cheapest.  Usually works out well for me!   :)

That's why I like booking.com - you don't pay up front and if you book correctly you can cancel without charge.

Travel republic, I always clear cookies when searching.  2 or 3 times a year I book Hisaronu, Dalyan, 3 nights B&B for the 2 of us, most I have ever paid for 3 nights in total is £24.

On booking.com hotels put their own prices, which you pay direcly to the hotel.
With the other websites, like e.g. Travel Republic, you book thorugh an agent so you get agency prices which are a lot lower.

Not scientific I know but "a lot lower"? Just checked one hotel I've been to - same room, same dates - £3 cheaper on TR.

I've used Booking.com many times and they have been excellent so I will probably stick with them but will now check with TR as well. Thanks for the advice.

You're right. I should have written can be lot lower.
On booking.com the hotels can charge anything they want.

I also use booking.com a lot but specifically for hotels that don't work with the travel agencies.
