Title: Hand Luggage being weighed.
Post by: Jacqui Harvey on May 13, 2015, 21:36:02 PM
We left from Glasgow Airport this morning and the check-in staff were weighing all hand luggage.  We spoke to our neighbours in Calis who fly from Manchester and they told us their hand luggage was also weighed.  So be aware of this, or you could be charged excess baggage.  ;D

Yes, I have noted a tendency for the UK based airlines to now weigh hand luggage.

To avoid any nasty surprises, please go to the following:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/beat-budget-airline-charges

Especially, please read items 3,4 & 5.  What is ridiculous is that you could take items out of your hand luggage (if you are over the limit), put them on your person then hand the baggage back to be weighed.  When the bag is under the limit, obviously there is no surcharge. BUT the weight is still there! See:

for further ideas.

Easy jet, no weight limit on hand luggage as long as you can lift it into overhead locker, mine is frequently heavier than my case!

We flew from DLM last week and Thomas Cook weighed every item of hand luggage and there was a TC rep for every 2 desks to charge excess. fees, it looked like the 6kg limit had a "ok if under 7kg" tolerance!

Yes and Thomson - I got charged £20 to put my hand luggage into the hold as it was more than their measly 5kg - this was in 2011 from Glasgow.

Only if they get the chance to weigh it!If you check in online and travel without a suitcase, the first they see your hand luggage is at the boarding gate.Having said that I have a booked suitcase this year and going from Glasgow so I will have the delight of getting my hand luggage weighed. But then again they always seem to weigh ours at Glasgow TC even before this year.

"If you check-in online and travel without a suitcase"
I had to have a sit down when I read this.   I travel with my suitcase and three quarters of Phi's too.  I cannot imagine travelling without a suitcase.   Even for an overnighter in Aberdeen I have a suitcase...   ;D  ;)

We are off to Calis in a couple of hours.  My case looks and feels very heavy but the scales are showing only 20kgs, and we are allowed 23!! so I think ill have to pop in another pair of shoes!!
