Title: What's going on with 2018 prices?
Post by: TimWalker on October 30, 2017, 22:29:27 PM
We are travelling in August for two and a half weeks, flights coming in at over £2k from Northern airports.
It didn't cost me much more than that to Orlando this summer in PE seating.
Can anybody reassure me that prices will come down?
I will pay that if I have to but it seems a big jump from two years ago. Family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, 16 and 8.

Is that not classified as two adults ?

Okay, 3 adults one child. Doesn't make a lot of difference anyway.

Easyjet MAN -DLM £565 return - over £400 for the return flight alone. I've never seen prices like it for Dalaman. Cyprus (which is further of course) is £200 cheaper per person (Liverpool to Larnaca).

I once again predict a tough season for Turkey :(

Our situation is that as time goes on, the idea of holidaying in Turkey is still there, but the compulsion to go there is waning. At one time I would have to find flights for Dalaman for our October week. Now we have discovered other places and if the flights to them are significantly cheaper, we are equally happy to go to them instead.

I have a theory that within reasonable tolerances, in and around Europe everywhere costs the same when you do it DIY. Turkey has some amazing prices for hotels, but the flights are rarely cheap these days. Portugal hotels are far more expensive than Turkey, but the flights are cheap and plentiful.

Ultimately, we love Turkey but if flights are a ridiculous price, we are equally happy going somewhere else.

It's only the fact we are retired now and can go for longer periods that stops us from just selling up and going elsewhere.

Four to six weeks makes it just about bearable price wise but it still hurts to book at the current prices.

For anyone with a place out there looking to go for two weeks or less it's much cheaper to book a package deal and just use the flights.

Hopefully Ryanair or Norwegian will take up the Monarch slots and mix everything up a bit. I can hope  ;)

I see that Thomas Cook are putting on extra weekly flights to Dalaman from  various airports  and   Cardiff , Norwich for the 1st time in several years and to 2  other Turkish Airports next year,   due to Turkey being their 3 rd most popular destination

Jet2 have also increased the number of flights but best I can find for June is around £600 with luggage and seats - rubbish flight times though.  Thomson from Doncaster have great flight times but are close to a grand for 2 of us  :o

As I said in another thread we are flying out with Thomas Cook for the first time in years. A decent deal with everything that's thrown in but still £210 one way!!!

Still looking for flights home and Jet2 are the cheapest at the moment at about £143 each including bags.

So we are looking at £700 for two of us From Leeds unless we take a chance and hope Thomson have some late deals whilst we are out there.

Hi all the price of flights is just crazy we are teachers and are fixed to the first 3weeks of the school holidays so the cheapest flight 23 july for 3weeks from birmingham is £991 with bags and seats for 2 adults with tomas cook  jet2 and easyjet from manchester are both £1100 ,will the prices rise or fall is the question ,you would think that closer to departure the prices would drop but i have checked over the last few years and they increases by stupid amounts ,the absence of monarch has pushed up the cost ,and as mentioned in a post there is no price comaparison for distance ,you could fly to usa ,india ,egypt ,  or canaries for less the turkey

To get flights cheap, especially if you know the dates you want to go, you have to get up very early on the date that your flights are released, especially if you fly with Easyjet. We booked our April trip for £78 each and our June trip for £98 each. All from Manchester. It's a hell of a saving and well worth setting the alarm for. I am now waiting for Septembers flights to be released, which will be in the next week or so.

As I mentioned in another thread, its worth having a look at THY - under £210rtn from Edinburgh to Dalaman in June 2018 via Istanbul and the transit times aren't bad. I haven't checked Manchester or Heathrow (Gatwick?) but generally they are a few quid cheaper than Edinburgh.  Going by some of the prices quoted here, you could be saving hundreds of pounds and get the bonus that you could stopover in the 'Bul for a few days, either on your way out or on your way back.

No Stoop. Just Hand luggage, but even with luggage it's still cheap   :)

No weight allowance on hand luggage either.  So long as it's the required size and you are able to put in overhead lockers then Bob's your Uncle

For four weeks we would not be OK on cabin luggage. 23k is £76 pp which is about right these days but puts the price up tremendously.

What I have found is that if you want the bargains you have to
Book early (as soon as the flights are advertised)
Be flexible in the airports, days and times that you fly
Try not to build up extra costs like if you normally take 2 cases take 1 and utilize the hand luggage
don't pre book seats
don't pay for food have it before you fly
don't pay for priority boarding you will already have a seat allocated ( I cant see the point in getting to your seat before every one else you end up having to get up and down if you are in an isle seat and guaranteed you will get a bag smacked in your face)
 ;D

99% chance if you don’t book seats you don’t sit together for four hours. Might suit some but we tend to like each other’s company.

Still wouldn’t manage four weeks on one case. I’d be in my speedos the whole time  ;)

I check in as early as I can, I note the date for check in opening in my phone calendar and so far, with Easyjet, Monarch, Jet2 and Thomson we have not paid and have got 4 seats together each time.

They claim that tourism in Turkey will increase by 60% this year compared to recent years ( I know the Russians affected the numbers in 2016) BUT unless the flight companies reduce their prices, the number of U.K. tourists will be depleated.  I wonder if waiting for a last minute deal would suit people although it’s a risk. Booked my June flights with EasyJet and my Sept. flights with Turkish Airlines.  I hope the prices come down for those wishing to book.

We have two flights booked two weeks in April and also in August/September.
April was £75 return each
August/September £165 return each

Both from Stanstead and with Easyjet you had to get in early in my opinion as the prices went up my the minute.

I happy.....  :)

We booked with easyjet , Stansted to Dalaman for May ans September trips, for two people return £136 so good prices, but booking within about an hour of floghts released.

We have just paid £480 return for two Gatwick to Dalaman travelling boxing day for a week, high prices as xmas time and over new year. Hopefully its worth it.

We also booked as soon as Easyjet flights became available but still had to fork out £540 for two return flights.
Owning a wee place in the sun ain't so cheap now

Yep same - I was talking on Facebook with like minded idiots who were up at the crack of dawn to bag a Dalaman bargain when the flights were released and forced my booking home within minutes - Nobody I was talking with on FB got booked before me and still paid £1040 for 4 return flights (pretty much the same as Anne above pp).

I mentioned before that our twins are 18 this year and we always said that event would happen in Calis/Fethiye and so it will. However, right now the same flights exactly are £1579 and I know for a holiday in October I can get a late package holiday deal somewhere pleasant for the price of those flights - and after this year that is what I will probably do.

We booked flights for June & September from Stansted as early as possible once the flights had been released, although not at the crack of dawn, so we ended up paying £250/£300 each for the flights, which included luggage, speedy boarding and leg room seats.   Flights are too expensive and will put people off going to Turkey.
Prices 'down south' are also expensive !

Chariste the only good news is that from your post jet 2 has competition albeit from TC from LBA after the demise of Monarch, which was previously our preffered option.
