suggeston for a tree
« on: August 02, 2012, 13:46:06 PM »
We're looking to plant yet another tree but not quite sure what to go for.  Basically it needs to be  tough because we are high up in Uzumlu but needs to look good in the summer preferably with flowers.   Not really interested in it being a fruit tree because we have enough of those.
Any suggestions?

What the Turks call Melissa, is a bush that tends to get damaged by cold weather in Uzumlu, ours comes back each year, but the blooms are insignificant and appear in about September.  The smell is lovely though.  We have a Bird Of Paradise tree/bush and that is glorious!!!!!

Our suggestion,  Prunus cerasifera.  Cherry Plum or Ornamental Cherry. A few varieties deep purple is our fav. Spring blossom then stunning deep purple leaves most of the year. The fruit is edible too. A destinctive specimen tree, can be kept to the size you require by pruning. Winter hardy in Uk even. thrives well in Turkey ( top side Ovacik). Good for summer screening too.
