Syrian Refugees
« on: April 02, 2016, 10:35:58 AM »
Under the new EU/Turkey deal Syrian refugees are due to be returned from Greece to Turkey starting on Monday. It is by no means clear that Turkey is ready to receive them. A BBC correspondent says a so-called "Registration Camp" is still an empty field. Concerns are growing about whether Turkey can be described as a safe haven for refugees. An Amnesty International report says 100 refugees per day have been forcibly repatriated to Syria since mid January - an illegal act under international law. There are also reports of fleeing Syrians being shot by Turkish security forces.
