What to use for rose spray?
« on: June 14, 2016, 11:19:58 AM »
Any suggestions for a mixture to spray on roses to prevent blackfly and other diseases on my roses. (Not in Turkey).

My roses in Turkey were a lot easier to grow and flowered about five times over the growing period. It must be a damp climate that makes the difference.

If you smoke, or know someone who does, collect the butts regularly and soak them in water. Spray your roses with the liquid with a bit of washing-up liquid in it. The nicotine from the butts will kill most insects and the washing-up liquid helps to make it soak in.

Last week I used washing up liquid in water and it worked really well. However, you can buy spray for roses etc., The guy up at the Garden Centre in Ovacik will sell you some.

Two days ago I noticed whitefly on the cucumber plants and greenfly on the pepper plants in the greenhouse.

Spayed them all with a soapy water solution and today they're clear. I'm not keen on using chemicals, especially

  fruit and veg'.

A solution for next year is to grow Nicotiana, commonly known as Tobacco plants, amongst the roses.
