Lime Trees
« on: September 03, 2016, 07:02:00 AM »
I am looking for a Lime tree to add to my citrus collection, I think they would grow ok, but can't seem to find one in the garden centres I've visited, anyone got a clue as the where I could get one or two.

Never seen them here and someone said they wont grow here which seems odd.
Would also love one.

I've only ever seen one lime tree over there. A neighbour in Kaya had grown it from seed over about 10 years.

Saw "limes" for sale in Migros once but they turned-out to be green lemons.

Are you sure they werent green mandolins.
Never seen limes at the market.
Migros occasionally have them at around 30tl a kilo.
The new metro store has them too.

A rare stroll into the gardening section for me  :)

Is there a reason why lemons are so plentiful in the area but limes not? Such price differences suggest they are not easy to grow - surely if you can grow one you can grow the other?

I don't think they're particularly difficult to grow. They're just not as popular with Turkish people as lemons are. Like lemons, they take 3 to 4 years growing before they begin to produce fruit..

It's quite possible that the "limes" on the market are fakes.       :o

Another option for growing them would be to pop a few young saplings into your wife's suitcase before departing the UK. !!

   Pot them up on arrival.

The so called limes on the market yesterday were mandolins, I had to look twice, so I asked.
