Walkie talkies?

We have a winner :D

Nice one Liz

Yes, ever since the time when the girls were getting too old for us to have a family room, we have booked 2 rooms and kept in touch with walkie talkies (and around the complex etc).

The Cuban security chaps were not impressed at all when they found one - they made me open them, take the batteries out (which I have never done so had no idea how to) then in Dalaman Naughty Book style they noted down passport numbers and serial numbers for the walkie talkies.

We were allowed to go when they told us we should have declared them on the form on arrival and I said we did, go check the form - the girl didn't even look at it when we handed it in.

Not a full blown marigold investigation but it does show that you need to be careful bringing fairly tame things into foreign lands.

And JF, not sure if what you are thinking is what I am thinking you are thinking :D

Travel iron!  Prohibited item.  Fortunately we hadn't declared it and for some reason they didn't pick it up at customs. What they did pick up on was a couple of cigarette lighters and at that time they were on the banned list.  Hence when out and about if you were smoking it was a constant procession of folks approaching you for a light.  Only Cubans were allowed to buy matches and lighters were non existent in the shops.  How can you light up a whopping big cohiba with no fire?  Curious scenario.

That, along with a pair of genuine Fethiye RayBans, were successfully traded with a couple of workers at the hotel for a selection of cigars the night before we left.
