Just wondered what was best to have Tapu in one name or Two names ?
Do you pay more for council tax if its in 2 names ?
Is better for my partner to sell if I pop off ?
Just interested in the pros and cons of 1 name or 2 names on Tapu.
Other than the idea that it is her and my house.
Love to hear your thoughts on this.

We have our Tapu in both names and are assured that the council tax is split 50/50.
The council tax we were charged seemed to be a lot and our Turkish neighbour told us it was based on ground floor area and we have the whole ground floor of a villa. Above there are to duplex apartments and they pay half the council tax we pay - have never looked into this any further but would be interested to know if this is right.

We have recently bought two adjacent plots of land and according to the latest rule, from the horses mouth in Mugla one can only have a single name per tapu, not two which is what he have on our current land and house.

I would also say that if you trust the person you are buying with (yes I know in most cases you are married to them :) ) - if you just have one name on the tapu it means you halve the chances of potential problems in the event of the death of one of you. If you are lucky, the one to drop dead will be the one not on the tapu ;)
For this reason alone I now always advise one name.

I have not heard anything about "the latest rules".Savoyboy, We've got ours in joint names but it would pay you,I think, to give each other power of attorney if you do that then if any document ect' needs signing only one of you need to be there (one flight cost ect).I t may also help if one of you pops off (re Turkish inheritance laws). !!! ;) ;)

Power of attorney makes no difference if one pops of and council tax is per property we have two of us on tapu and tax is no different to our Turkish neighbour

After Scunner posted that comment a few years ago we did our second place in one name, and agreed it makes a lot of sense as we have only one child and no family with previous partners - but have seen major problems with people who have more than one family, and even worse when they were not married.
As for the council tax that is divided equally by the amount of names on the TAPU so one name pays 100%, 2 names pay 50% each etc.

As we are not married.

We put our property in joint names when we bought, but now regret it. We have taken out Turkish wills, which will not stand up under Turkish inheritance laws and a POA each. We are now trying to sell, just to take our assets out of the country. We do have rather a complicated family, both of us previously being married with children and a child of our own, so I would say that it rather depends on your family circumstances. In hindsight (which is a wonderful thing), we would have put our property in only one name, and that would have solved all of our concerns, as if that person leaves this planet first, the property would be legally split as our wishes are mirrored in our wills.
I must add that we absolutely love Calis and when we sell, we will be returning just as frequently, but renting instead.

I stand corrected boss, I was told this was the case when we bought our property. Our family is complicated also and we took all this into account when deciding whos name went on our tapu. Now that we are selling we have a different set of problems.

One name is best ,i tend to get married quite a lot and having two names on tapu does cause problems ,i dont intend getting married anymore but i would certainly only put one name on , ;D

Yes it does - as long as they don't pop off in Turkey, and you subsequently 'forget' to tell the deeds office...

Yes I did. I meant purchase tax. not council tax. I was told if 2 names went on the tapu purchase tax on the tapu value had to be paid by both parties??

Easy put one from each family and then keep them away from prawns :-)
