Title: Zayra Restaurant
Post by: anna-marie01 on January 31, 2012, 15:52:39 PM
Esraf the waiter from the Roka has opened a new restaurant,it's just around the corner from Cafe Pazar.
Five of us ate in there yesterday off of his special daytime menu, and i have to say the food was very good.
You got a starter and main meal plus a small salad and bread for the princely sum of 10 TL.I would strongly reccomend giving this place a try.

Best plate of pasta I've had in a very long time & a big enough portion for me not to be able to eat it all so I took a "doggy bag" home & had it for lunch today!

Immaculate kitchen, spotlessly clean toilets, Efes at 4.5tl, complimentary salad/bread/meze/tea or coffee.

I'll be back & soon.

PS: Quiz on a Sunday at 1pm if you like them!

Where exactly is "round the corner from Cafe Pazar S-cabby? (I love that new nick someone gave you, affectionately shortened yet one hyphen away from a big insult  ;) ) - I am just wondering because I can't think where round the corner a new restaurant could be  :)

Did you ever notice the old caravan hiding in amongst a few trees that said paintballing on it? If so, its oposite there.

If you havent seen that, then imagine walking past Harman towards Cafe pazaar, past some blocks of flats, then just after they built a building with flats above and the restaurant below. Its very smart looking with a large decking area outside.
The menus are great, the only reason we havent been is because weve never seen anyone in there and had no recommendations to go on, but will definitely venture in now.
Last Sunday there were quite a few people in there.
Opening a new business in November seemed strange, but maybe it will prove successful for them.I hope so, you can see theyve put a lot of effort and money into making it look very nice.

Thanks kayakebab I know exactly where you mean now you've mentioned the paintballing caravan.  We've passed this every time we've gone to the Sunday market and always found it amusing!

Will give the Zayra a try in May.

Got it thanks, know exactly where you are. I assumed the caravan was just parked up there rather than that being the place it took place - that area is where the rare trees are so it would be surprising to have such activity there.

We went on Wednesday too, decided to give it a try to celebrate being here for one year, but as Mark said there was a private function.
Went down the front for Chinese but both Serkuls were closed, Eyna was closed so ended up in the Nil Bar, we were the only people in there.
Never seen Calis so dead, but it was very cold.

Calis has been dead all Winter day and night. Never seen it as quiet. Occasionally it is busy when the sun comes out and Cafe Soul on Thursdays but not many even walking on the front except a few Turkish locals.

Went again tonight after a 10 hour day in the hire car, another superb meal & Esraf said he is getting busier by the day. Table of 4 just finishing as we arrived, table of 5 arrived just as were leaving, more than some places on the front I'm sure!

PS: The private function was a birthday party, 36 Turkish folk from Fethiye, with all the choice they had I was glad they chose the Zayra to keep the momentum going for Esraf & his g/f.

Like Karaokemark - we had the day time menu yesterday.
We got there later than we planned (3pm) and the place was empty so you often fear the worst when you are the only ones in a place - we needn't have worried.

The young man (Esref) met us before we walked in and was really genuinely warm and friendly.

We had a large bottle of water with a starter (a sort of fried meatball) which he recommended with a side salad and bread and the usual 2 dips. Gill then had a Chicken and Mushroom Pasta and I had the Mexican Chicken and it was really nice.

This was followed by 2 coffees at 1.5 TL each

So all this for 25 TL - I even slightly upped my mandatory 10% tip policy which tells you it must have been good as this really doesn't happen very often  ;)

You should give this place a try - it is worth the effort and he is such a nice young man who deserves to do well  :)

Four of us had the 10 TL daytime menu on Sunday and it was excellent, really good value and tasty. Esraf is really friendly and the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and is spotlessly clean. I think it will become a regular venue for a spot of lunch.

Please can someone explain where this new restaurant is?  I have gone back to page 1 and tried to visualise the area, but I'm lost!!  :(

Is it after Cafe Pazaar and the Roka - further on?  Our apartment is near here so it might turn out to be our new local!!   :)

Also (off topic!), is the new Bostans in the same area?  I've been away too long; just can't picture where Bostans is either, though it was my favourite sea front place for morning coffee and orange juice (and evening efes at sunset)!!!  [:o)]

Thanks!   ;)

Zayra: It is on the same road as The Harman & Sevi Classic but at the top end, just below the Cafe Pazar. Had my "last supper" there yesterday, superb as ever, thanks to Esref, his g/f (the chef) & his brother, how can you get better than a 2 course meal with bread, side salad & coffee for 10tl?

Bostans: Head from the Sunday market towards Fethiye, last building on the right before the Pink law courts on the corner as you reach the main coast road.

Went to Zayra restaurant last night and tried their steak set menu, which consists of a starter - choice of soup, cheese rolls, garlic mushrooms or bulgar balls, followed by any steak dish, then a choice of several desserts all for the princely sum of 24tl (£8.50) Excellent value for money, the food was delicious as always and the staff (Esref and his brother) as pleasant and friendly as usual. Would highly recommend anyone to give this a try, as we have never been disappointed yet! :D

Been again today at 4pm - for 10 TL I had:

meze starter - cheese rolls - chicken in mushroom sauce served with chips and rice - all thoroughly first class and clean plates left by both of us!!!

The waiter actually said - "no need to wash these" after our main course!

Remember though this "special" 10 TL menu is 11am - 5pm - in the evening they have a full menu at reasonable prices.

Nice people - trying very hard and by the numbers in the evening it is growing steadily.

We have 2 x 15 year old girls (granddaughter and friend) with us and as we can see the Zayra from our front gate (just) we arranged with one of the boys there to let them walk up and have a meal on their own on condition that they had no alcohol and didn't leave the restaurant. (they had to text us and not leave until they saw me at the gate).

So all went to plan - they gave them a wider choice on a fixed 13 TL menu - a free Apple Tea at the end of the meal and as they left - a kiss on the hand and a can of coke to drink on the way home - needless to say they enjoyed the space for 2 hours and their meals.

You have to be impressed by people who run their business in such a way???

Zayra 1 still offers the best vfm meal in Calis & I really don't think they can be beaten.

Simple, freshly cooked food at an amazing price, how they do it I don't know.

Beautiful salad, fresh bread, choice of starter, huge bowl of pasta with chicken & a creamy mushroom sauce & cay to finish for 10tl, yes 10tl, £4 appx (only available up to 5pm, 13tl afterwards - to pay for the lighting!)

Well done to Esref & staff, nice to know some things don't change in Calis!

We ended up bringing some home as they are happy to wrap up for you.

I can see this place being very, very busy in the near future.

Lovely people and they deserve to do well    :)

We went a couple of weeks ago and had the casserole after George's recommendation.
Was delicious.
We also got balloon bread, garlic butter and complimentary cay..... Just like the old days when almost every restaurant did this.
Great value, great service, and attention to detail.
The owner is lovely and he is always concerned and making sure everything is spot on, whether its a 7tl pide or a full meal, he deserves all his recommendations.

John is also a convert to the barber next door.

I was there last night, too.
Food was good but service slow.
Five more minutes and I would have left.
Apologetic but slow nevertheless.

I was reminded of Zakkum (the previous incarnation) where it seemed that only one order of food would be cooked then served before starting the next.

I will try again but I will be less patient than last night.

I guess some would say it was a bit slow Amca.  I personally don't mind waiting a bit as it gives me a chance to relax and have a chat before tucking in.  I hate it when your food is on the table almost as soon as you order...but that's just me  ;)

I agree Janmack, and the hospitality at Zayra is second to none. Now my favourite place in Calis   8)

Forty minutes for a pide in a pide place is extraordinarily slow no matter how much I might want to chat.
I am not disputing anything said by others.

We ate there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The food is freshly cooked, there's plenty of it, excellent value for money and the service is friendly but not "in your face."  Highly recommended.  Oh and they give you the biggest wine measures I've come across...excellent!!!

I can certainly vouch for the wine measures! 6Tl for a LARGE glass of good rose wine!

This place is excellent for good quality, good value meals.  As we were staying at the Caretta Apartments it's just a short walk up the road for us so went a few times.  Chicken casserole is lovely and they will do a double portion of rice instead of rice and chips if you ask.

Lovely relaxing place to eat. Gets our recommendation.

Had a great meal here (the one on the corner of the market road) really good value, I had ordered cheese rolls starter (I just love them) and the owner (forget his name) pointed out that these were on the 3 course menu of which hubby had chosen his main meal, this was a refreshing change as some places would have just charged for the starter, I ordered a pide it was huge and I just could  not manage it all but very nice it was, also you get the hot puffy bread and salad as starters...very reasonable price bill at the end of the night and lovely ambiance there...
