Esraf the waiter from the Roka has opened a new restaurant,it's just around the corner from Cafe Pazar.
Five of us ate in there yesterday off of his special daytime menu, and i have to say the food was very good.
You got a starter and main meal plus a small salad and bread for the princely sum of 10 TL.I would strongly reccomend giving this place a try.
-
Best plate of pasta I've had in a very long time & a big enough portion for me not to be able to eat it all so I took a "doggy bag" home & had it for lunch today!
Immaculate kitchen, spotlessly clean toilets, Efes at 4.5tl, complimentary salad/bread/meze/tea or coffee.
I'll be back & soon.
PS: Quiz on a Sunday at 1pm if you like them!
-
Sounds nice! I will try it on Sunday, after my visit at the market.
-
Where exactly is "round the corner from Cafe Pazar S-cabby? (I love that new nick someone gave you, affectionately shortened yet one hyphen away from a big insult ;) ) - I am just wondering because I can't think where round the corner a new restaurant could be :)
-
Did you ever notice the old caravan hiding in amongst a few trees that said paintballing on it? If so, its oposite there.
If you havent seen that, then imagine walking past Harman towards Cafe pazaar, past some blocks of flats, then just after they built a building with flats above and the restaurant below. Its very smart looking with a large decking area outside.
The menus are great, the only reason we havent been is because weve never seen anyone in there and had no recommendations to go on, but will definitely venture in now.
Last Sunday there were quite a few people in there.
Opening a new business in November seemed strange, but maybe it will prove successful for them.I hope so, you can see theyve put a lot of effort and money into making it look very nice.
-
Thanks kayakebab I know exactly where you mean now you've mentioned the paintballing caravan. We've passed this every time we've gone to the Sunday market and always found it amusing!
Will give the Zayra a try in May.
-
off topic.... has anyone ever seen anyone going paintballing there?
-
Got it thanks, know exactly where you are. I assumed the caravan was just parked up there rather than that being the place it took place - that area is where the rare trees are so it would be surprising to have such activity there.

Who gave me that nickname then Boss? Hadn't noticed it before, must take more notice in class :D
Went to the Zayra for supper tonight, couldn't get in the door, was fully booked, not bad for a Wed night in February, oh I jest a little, they had a wedding reception so invite only, back home for cauliflower cheese & Khargi meatloaf instead lol.
-
I'm no grass
It was jacqtay :D

guilty 8) sorry Supacabby:D....I must try harder in class :-\
-
We went on Wednesday too, decided to give it a try to celebrate being here for one year, but as Mark said there was a private function.
Went down the front for Chinese but both Serkuls were closed, Eyna was closed so ended up in the Nil Bar, we were the only people in there.
Never seen Calis so dead, but it was very cold.
-
Calis has been dead all Winter day and night. Never seen it as quiet. Occasionally it is busy when the sun comes out and Cafe Soul on Thursdays but not many even walking on the front except a few Turkish locals.

Never in the 7 years we've been here Linda!!!
-
Went again tonight after a 10 hour day in the hire car, another superb meal & Esraf said he is getting busier by the day. Table of 4 just finishing as we arrived, table of 5 arrived just as were leaving, more than some places on the front I'm sure!
PS: The private function was a birthday party, 36 Turkish folk from Fethiye, with all the choice they had I was glad they chose the Zayra to keep the momentum going for Esraf & his g/f.
-
we have been to the zayra,9of us had meals ,very nice, service good, no complaints
-
sorry, his name is Esref (Eshref) not Esraf.
I wish him all the best, known him a while and he's a nice guy. :)
-
Oops, sorry Nicky, erm I mean Nikkie :)
-
:) No problem Mark ;)
-
Myself and Carole just had the special daytime menu, excellent value for money, food seved hot very tasty. will certainly go again
Mark
-
Does anyone know if they will have football on today?
Was thinking of doing lunch and Man Utd v Liverpool in Calis today and would like to give this place a try?
Ian :)
-
Like Karaokemark - we had the day time menu yesterday.
We got there later than we planned (3pm) and the place was empty so you often fear the worst when you are the only ones in a place - we needn't have worried.
The young man (Esref) met us before we walked in and was really genuinely warm and friendly.
We had a large bottle of water with a starter (a sort of fried meatball) which he recommended with a side salad and bread and the usual 2 dips. Gill then had a Chicken and Mushroom Pasta and I had the Mexican Chicken and it was really nice.
This was followed by 2 coffees at 1.5 TL each
So all this for 25 TL - I even slightly upped my mandatory 10% tip policy which tells you it must have been good as this really doesn't happen very often ;)
You should give this place a try - it is worth the effort and he is such a nice young man who deserves to do well :)
-
Four of us had the 10 TL daytime menu on Sunday and it was excellent, really good value and tasty. Esraf is really friendly and the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and is spotlessly clean. I think it will become a regular venue for a spot of lunch.
-
Went today at almost 5pm daytime menu still available, excellant value for money the meal was beautifully presented, hot and tasty. We will certainly be going again,Esref is a superb host very welcoming,we wish him well for the oncoming season.
-
So nice to read all these positive comments for a new Turkish establishment.Well done Esref long may it continue.Wish you well for the forthcoming season.Good to gear about places away from the promenade doing good business especially during the winter.
-
Please can someone explain where this new restaurant is? I have gone back to page 1 and tried to visualise the area, but I'm lost!! :(
Is it after Cafe Pazaar and the Roka - further on? Our apartment is near here so it might turn out to be our new local!! :)
Also (off topic!), is the new Bostans in the same area? I've been away too long; just can't picture where Bostans is either, though it was my favourite sea front place for morning coffee and orange juice (and evening efes at sunset)!!! [:o)]
Thanks! ;)
-
You need to turn down the road at Cafe Pazaar Corner
Bostans is opposite Alo 24
-
From what I can gather it is on the same street at The Harman Hotel? Going there next Thursday.
-
No I think the next one - heading Fethiye way. Parallel to Harman Street - the one dead opposite the entrance to the market.
-
Now I have confused myself :D
-
No, I think you are right, my memory isn't what it was ;)
-
Zayra: It is on the same road as The Harman & Sevi Classic but at the top end, just below the Cafe Pazar. Had my "last supper" there yesterday, superb as ever, thanks to Esref, his g/f (the chef) & his brother, how can you get better than a 2 course meal with bread, side salad & coffee for 10tl?
Bostans: Head from the Sunday market towards Fethiye, last building on the right before the Pink law courts on the corner as you reach the main coast road.
-
Thanks S-Cabby ( :-\ ). That's made it very clear! Enjoy your travels. :)
-
Yes thanks S.Cabby for the directions will b trying this place as well and were not totally sure where it was:D
-
I went for lunch with a friend last Friday - excellent value for money - had the garlic mushrooms followed by the chicken in mushroom sauce - and my friend had the bulgar balls and the same main as me - bread, little paste meze things a lovely fresh salad - water and a couple of teas and coffees - 25tl well worth it.
-
Looking forward to eating at the Zayra, not sure about the bulgar balls though :) what are these?
Glad to see more eating places opening in Gunlukbasi
The Badgers 8)
-
Me too Badger! We wont need to go all the way down to the front so often from now on - there will be more choice closer to home! :)
-
Bulgar balls are made of a filling of mince, onion and herbs covered in bulgar wheat, they are delicious!! :)
-
Yes but what sort of animal is a bulgar ;)
-
It's a cross between a BULl and a couGAR :o:D
-
These balls must be quite big then :D
-
Put it this way,you wouldn't want more than two. :-\:D
-
I fear I wouldn't want more than none ;)
-
:D:D
-
Finally tried the Zayra today it was delicious and tasted even better because our good friends Ian and Gill paid. I wont call him tight again. LOL. spotlessly clean place. lovely food and good service. Will definatley be going again. Thanks u 2. xxxx
-
I am really liking the sound of Zayra...and just a few minutes from where we are stopping in June.... :)
Sorry to hear on another thread that Cafe Inn seems to have gone downhill, shame as I always thought Billy and his staff were nice and the food very good.
-
Went again last night 4 of us cant beat the 10tl menu very good but going to the A La Carte menu soup or garlic mush peppered steak veg chips rice good salad bread basket ,wine or lge beer 30tl nice people as well . ;):D
-
After all the good reviews, thought we would try this new restaurant. Food and service was excellent. Will certainly go there again when we are out in June.
-
We also tried the Zayra last Sunday and will defo be returning.
We were really lucky with the weather last Sunday so were able to sit outside and eat. Lovely ambience great food and good prices and as everyone else has said lovely friendly owner :)
-
Went to Zayra restaurant last night and tried their steak set menu, which consists of a starter - choice of soup, cheese rolls, garlic mushrooms or bulgar balls, followed by any steak dish, then a choice of several desserts all for the princely sum of 24tl (£8.50) Excellent value for money, the food was delicious as always and the staff (Esref and his brother) as pleasant and friendly as usual. Would highly recommend anyone to give this a try, as we have never been disappointed yet! :D
-
Will definitely give it a try
-
We ate here on our recent visit and were very impressed. Had the 10 lira menu - you just can't go wrong at that price! Service, as everyone else says, was excellent. :)
-
My brother and his girlfriend went last night, they said it was the cheapest and the best meal they've had anywhere since arriving 10 days ago
-
Thought I'd bring this back to the top for those of you about to visit for your summer jollies.
I can only echo everything that's been said already. Great food, great service and fantastic value for money. We will definitely eat there again:D
-
tottaly agree Anne, we had a fabulous meal there last week, the steak was the best we have had in Calis...
service was very good, and meal very good value.
we will certainly be visiting again when we are in calis September..
-
Good to hear that they are keeping up the standards.
-
Food was very good but please get rid of that barking dog if you want your customers to return
John
-
Are you referring to the lovely friendly dog that lives there that most people make a big fuss of or the one next door?
-
the dog there was sweet, and yes he did bark a few times while we were eating but that was only because people were running down the street or a motorbike came along, he soon stopped and was no trouble.. never saw a dog from next door.
-
That's good to hear Sunlover, he's a lovely dog and have never seen him bark. He's been there ever since they opened and many local all year round regulars love him very much.
Would be sad to see another one 'got rid of'.
Hope the staff at Zayra didnt read j.arbers post!
-
Where is this place, and before you tell me to donate for a guide! I already have and have one but cannot find it on there.
Thanking advance!
-
It's between the Harman hotel and Cafe pazar if that helps, or from cafe pazar walk down towards the sea and it's just on your right
-
Went there again today (about 15 times now and never had a bad experience.
The 10 lira for 2 courses menu is still available until 5pm with tea and coffee at 1.5 lira so really good value. The service and the food were very good.
-
It's between the Harman hotel and Cafe pazar if that helps, or from cafe pazar walk down towards the sea and it's just on your right
Is this the 'dolphin less roundabout' road?
-
No... From calis traffic lights walk towards Fethiye, past the aqua park, keep going til you get to Bim. Turn up by the side of Bim, the Harman is on our left, keep going and it's a couple of minutes past the Harman.
-
...or walk up Baris Manco till you reach the crossroads which Aydin Pide is on, turn right and walk along till you reach Cafe Pazar and turn right on their corner.
-
Been again today at 4pm - for 10 TL I had:
meze starter - cheese rolls - chicken in mushroom sauce served with chips and rice - all thoroughly first class and clean plates left by both of us!!!
The waiter actually said - "no need to wash these" after our main course!
Remember though this "special" 10 TL menu is 11am - 5pm - in the evening they have a full menu at reasonable prices.
Nice people - trying very hard and by the numbers in the evening it is growing steadily.
-
it is an excellent place Ian, and yes the food is 1st class and esraf and his brother ex roka restaurant, are really nice guys. :) :)
-
sounds fantastic, staying at Ten apartments next week so it must be only round the corner from me.
-
I had shrimps in garlic and cream sauce last night, it was actually on the starters list, but they did it for me as a main course. It was lovely, came with couscous and chips. I don't normally like cous cous, but it was yummy.
-
Ate there last night, couldn't do enough for us. My son ordered the lamb sticks but 5 mins later the waiter/ owner came out to tell him they'd run out but would do him lamb chops at the same price. My lads eyes lit up as he was struggling to decide which one to have anyway.
My wife had a pasta dish and said it was the best meal she'd had this hols, needless to say we will be returning.
-
We have 2 x 15 year old girls (granddaughter and friend) with us and as we can see the Zayra from our front gate (just) we arranged with one of the boys there to let them walk up and have a meal on their own on condition that they had no alcohol and didn't leave the restaurant. (they had to text us and not leave until they saw me at the gate).
So all went to plan - they gave them a wider choice on a fixed 13 TL menu - a free Apple Tea at the end of the meal and as they left - a kiss on the hand and a can of coke to drink on the way home - needless to say they enjoyed the space for 2 hours and their meals.
You have to be impressed by people who run their business in such a way???
-
Nice to hear Ian... bet they loved there little bit of freedom :)
a very friendly restaurant and we will certainly be back in September
-
They have some live entertainment on this Sunday night.
-
do they have live music every Sunday ?
-
There now appears to be two Zayra restaurants.
-
Yes, they're both in the family & have slightly different menus. The new one is on the opposite corner to Cafe Pazar
-
Good business sense.
End of November, open another restaurant within 100 yards of the existing Zayra, Roka, Pines and Cafe Inn.
-
Maybe the idea is to get the other one going before the lease runs out on their old one.
-
Zayra 1 still offers the best vfm meal in Calis & I really don't think they can be beaten.
Simple, freshly cooked food at an amazing price, how they do it I don't know.
Beautiful salad, fresh bread, choice of starter, huge bowl of pasta with chicken & a creamy mushroom sauce & cay to finish for 10tl, yes 10tl, £4 appx (only available up to 5pm, 13tl afterwards - to pay for the lighting!)
Well done to Esref & staff, nice to know some things don't change in Calis!
-
Spot on supacabby. and their fish and chips for 10 lira are excellent. and an effes 5 lira, take note rip off SAAT.
-
Went to Zayra 1 last week - superb value as Supacabby / Mark says.
Went to Zayra 2 this evening had Tuna Pizza / Mince and Cheese Pide - huge bowl of fresh salad and a bowl of chips - fresh puffy bread to start - all very good indeed.
We ended up bringing some home as they are happy to wrap up for you.
I can see this place being very, very busy in the near future.
Lovely people and they deserve to do well :)
-
Zayra 2 has just put a range of oven baked casseroles on the menu, I was really happy to be used as a guinea pig for his chicken casserole the other day and its delicious.
-
All in all a good place to eat and very good value for your money, and just next door men's barber does a
Good shave to.
Please give him a try.
-
I can also vouch for the barber Sav, he's a really nice man and does a good job.
-
You traitor. How will our Gunlukbasi barber survive now.
-
We ate there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is freshly cooked, there's plenty of it, excellent value for money and the service is friendly but not "in your face." Highly recommended. Oh and they give you the biggest wine measures I've come across...excellent!!!
-
We went a couple of weeks ago and had the casserole after George's recommendation.
Was delicious.
We also got balloon bread, garlic butter and complimentary cay..... Just like the old days when almost every restaurant did this.
Great value, great service, and attention to detail.
The owner is lovely and he is always concerned and making sure everything is spot on, whether its a 7tl pide or a full meal, he deserves all his recommendations.
John is also a convert to the barber next door.
-
I was there last night, too.
Food was good but service slow.
Five more minutes and I would have left.
Apologetic but slow nevertheless.
I was reminded of Zakkum (the previous incarnation) where it seemed that only one order of food would be cooked then served before starting the next.
I will try again but I will be less patient than last night.
-
I guess some would say it was a bit slow Amca. I personally don't mind waiting a bit as it gives me a chance to relax and have a chat before tucking in. I hate it when your food is on the table almost as soon as you order...but that's just me ;)
-
I agree Janmack, and the hospitality at Zayra is second to none. Now my favourite place in Calis 8)
-
Forty minutes for a pide in a pide place is extraordinarily slow no matter how much I might want to chat.
I am not disputing anything said by others.
-
We ate there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is freshly cooked, there's plenty of it, excellent value for money and the service is friendly but not "in your face." Highly recommended. Oh and they give you the biggest wine measures I've come across...excellent!!!
I can certainly vouch for the wine measures! 6Tl for a LARGE glass of good rose wine!
This place is excellent for good quality, good value meals. As we were staying at the Caretta Apartments it's just a short walk up the road for us so went a few times. Chicken casserole is lovely and they will do a double portion of rice instead of rice and chips if you ask.
Lovely relaxing place to eat. Gets our recommendation.
-
This place is lovely... really friendly staff and great food we had the chicken casserole and the meatball casserole both lovely we will definitely be returning as also want to sample their pides...hubby can vouch for the barber next door also, he had the works haircut shave and what ever else men get done :)
-
Zayra Pide Restaurant is closed this week due to refurbishment.Should re-open Monday 11th. :)
-
Had a great meal here (the one on the corner of the market road) really good value, I had ordered cheese rolls starter (I just love them) and the owner (forget his name) pointed out that these were on the 3 course menu of which hubby had chosen his main meal, this was a refreshing change as some places would have just charged for the starter, I ordered a pide it was huge and I just could not manage it all but very nice it was, also you get the hot puffy bread and salad as starters...very reasonable price bill at the end of the night and lovely ambiance there...
-
As we are staying just up the road, cant wait to taste the menu
