I have never done online currency exchange, as the lira is so good we thought we would buy ready for this years trips, can anyone recommend a good online company as i think we would get a better rate online but would prefer recommendations.
Thx

I've used these a few times without any problem and found the rates quite good.

Martin Lewis's money programme covered this subject tonight. Seems there are currency comparison sites. Sorry didn't take any details, but if you can watch on catch up, may be worth your while.

His own site has a good one: http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/

Euro change are good and if you have a shop nearby you can pay on line and pick up. You get a slighter better rate online than in the shop. I used them yesterday and was told that they will also transfer money into your Turkish bank account, charges are £5 for up to £1000. Over this amount is free, minimum send is £300

Buying ANY currency in advance is a gamble, especially one as volatile as the Turkish lira.
Couple of things to bear in mind - firstly, its showing no signs of recovering against the major currencies right now and when it does recover, its unlikely to be an overnight process. Secondly, who knows what effect the upcoming referendum will have - depending on what happens between now and then, the lira may end up in real bother when the result is known.
You need to make up your own mind, I'm no financial expert - but at this moment in time, I wouldn't be committing any substantial amount of dosh to the lira.

Perhaps Sunlover is betting that the prospects for the £ are even more dire than for the ₺ so best to get rid of it now.

or maybe he might just hang on and watch it soar against the lira?

I know it's the wrong time of year for this question............ but the answer goes a little way to helping me work out if I am now worse off, or better off because of the currency rate changes ......... so here goes......
What's the average bar price for an Efes now ??????

You like living dangerously then Phil? :)

Are you holding your savings in form of Efes because you don't trust currency volatility?

To demonstrate my point and to prove my sadness I am publishing my handy Efes / Exchange rate table :
EXCHANGE RATE
3.5 3.75 4 4.25 4.5 4.75 5
10 £2.86 £2.67 £2.50 £2.35 £2.22 £2.11 £2.00
11 £3.14 £2.93 £2.75 £2.59 £2.44 £2.32 £2.20
12 £3.43 £3.20 £3.00 £2.82 £2.67 £2.53 £2.40
13 £3.71 £3.47 £3.25 £3.06 £2.89 £2.74 £2.60
14 £4.00 £3.73 £3.50 £3.29 £3.11 £2.95 £2.80
15 £4.29 £4.00 £3.75 £3.53 £3.33 £3.16 £3.00
16 £4.57 £4.27 £4.00 £3.76 £3.56 £3.37 £3.20
17 £4.86 £4.53 £4.25 £4.00 £3.78 £3.58 £3.40
18 £5.14 £4.80 £4.50 £4.24 £4.00 £3.79 £3.60
19 £5.43 £5.07 £4.75 £4.47 £4.22 £4.00 £3.80
20 £5.71 £5.33 £5.00 £4.71 £4.44 £4.21 £4.00
The price of Efes is down the side and the exchange rate is across the top.
So if the exchange rate is 3.75 and the price of Efes is 12 then my beer costs me £3.20.
If the exchange rate is 5 and a beer is 16 then it still costs me £3.20.
But with an exchange rate of 4.75 and a beer price of 18 it will be £3.79
Not rocket science - but like I say, it sort of crystallises whether you are better off or not

Now there's a thought Colwyn - perhaps I should panic buy beer !
-
You can't use the term Efes and beer in the same context. It would be an oxymoron (there you go Alan, I've fed you a good line...)
