John Fortune Dies
« on: December 31, 2013, 15:16:23 PM »
The brilliant satirist John Fortune died today aged 74. He was at his best in the great "George Parr" sketches with John Bird. Here is one of those from February 2008 which explains the great financial crash of Autumn 2008 - over six months before it happened. Thus demonstrating the penetrating social analysis of these two giants in the field of satire as well as their wonderful timing when working together.
P.S. I have discovered that the episode was actually broadcast on the South Bank Show in October 2007 which makes its content even more remarkable.

A real loss to comedy.  Wrote and performed amongst the best - and hardest hitting - satire, from the sixties right through until very recently.

Terrific writer indeed.

Where are the satirists today? Where indeed is comedy today? Just Charlie Brooker floating my boat.
