Beware of ordering currency on-line.
« on: May 29, 2013, 13:45:36 PM »
Last week I ordered Euros to be delivered to my home address. The reason for this was that 2 of our grandchildren are going to Spain and 1 to Portugal soon.We wanted to give them pocket money. The best rate at the time was the Post Office,so I ordered and paid for Euros to be delivered to my home by 1300 hrs next day.
At 1415 hrs next day,the Euros had not been delivered and I phoned the helpline number.I was informed that enquiries would be made and someone would phone me back.
I received a return call saying that I had not been at home when the postman had attempted delivery and that a note to that effect had been put through the my letterbox.
I was in all day,and there was no note.
I informed the helpline of this.
At around 0930 hrs the following day,I received a phone call from the helpline saying that they had received a message from the local sorting office that I had collected the Euros earlier that day from there, producing a driving licence as proof of identity.
I informed them that I had not collected the Euros.
A short time later,a Post Office Manager arrived at my home and at the same same time I received a request from the helpline to send them copies of my signature, which I did.
The rest of my hair was now going grey, and I quaffed a beer.
I asked the man from the Post Office to find the post man to show him the house where he had delivered the Euros.
He said he couldn't find him?????
He left, and shortly after I received information that my signature, and that of the person purporting to be me were not the same.
I got my Euros the following day,but have not received any follow up from the Sorting Office.
I won't order Currency on-line again.

My God, what a nightmare.

I have found in recent times that our local Ramsdens Gold shop has the best rates, and unlike these cheque cashing shops, where there can be just one person in front of you yet it still takes 40 minutes, with Ramsdens you are in and out in not time. Not sure if they are fully national though.

I have used the Post Office many times but I order on line and collect from the local PO rather than having it delivered.

Never had an issue with this method.

Do they ask "do you want chips with that"?  :)

We have used Travel FX a couple of times. They are very efficient and money is delivered next day.  Delivery free of charge if you order £500 or more.  They are always top of the list for the best rate.
