DIY Guide for Turkish Wedding please
« on: January 31, 2012, 13:22:41 PM »
We are two english people resident in turkey but are not married. Has anyone arranged their own wedding (without using a professional Wedding Planner), that could give us a guide to what has to be done to achieve married status for us.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I did last year.
First you need to regsiter at the British consulate and get a certificate of non-impediment. You will have to wait 3 weeks and one day for this. Then with that letter you need to take to your Vali to get stamped.
With this you then need to go to a clinic for a health and blood test. After you got this you go to the local evlendirme dairesi (wedding registration office) with a ton of photos and they will then give you a date.

Thanks Starman

Does the British Consulate in Antalya translate all the documents you need to take, like your Birth Certificate etc and do you have to make an appointment with them or just turn up. Do you remember how much they charged for their work.

Sorry Starman but could you also say what a Vali is and where do you get it stamped.  Also is the evlendirme dairesi in the big Council building  next to Migros in town here.

I did mine at the British consulate here in Istanbul. They did all the translations etc and then it was around 350 lira each but cant remember. The vali is the provincial governorship. If you are in Fethiye then this would be in Mugla. I cant really say if there is a place in Fethiye for that and also dont know where the wedding office is in Fethiye.
