There is a weather warning for Fethiye for Wednesday 7th January night. The temperature is set to drop to minus 4 with a wind chill factor of minus 12. Snow also forecast. Have to try and protect your solariums , vulnerable plants etc.
Good luck everyone.

Like a midsummer's day back in Yorkshire for some of us then... ;D
-
Yes forecast for cold overnight temps and its pretty chilly here right now but so far we are still only running oil filled rads which are not on yet today but it won't be before it is on.
So far not lit the Soba yet but if it drops down that low we may have it going for a couple af days if its going to get that cold and snow as well, but I really can't see that happening.
Well i hope not anyway.
Alan.

Rather have a double scotch,Colwyn, haha.

Also just been advised to put antifreeze in solar panels on the roof as well if its going to get that cold as the panels would cost about 300 tl each if they burst.
So I guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow then if its not raining to much.
-
-12 in Fethiye will mean -20 here up the mountain in Ovacik. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if it snowed. It already has up here once about a week or so ago.
Anti freeze in the solar panels? Bloody hell. Them panels on the roof? Bloody hell.
-
On later solar panel/solarium systems you will see what looks like a small saucepan above the tanks. This is where the antifreeze should be poured. The average twin panels need approx 2 litres of anti freeze. Pour the antifreeze in then bleed the panels from the draining point below the panels until you can smell the antifreeze coming through. Dont just pour it in and leave it as this will not help.

Back here in the UK today its been very foggy, freezing and not a good forecast for 2morrow. Just have 2 sit it out till we can get away to the sun again

You definitely need anti-freeze in solar panels in Ovacik. It'll cost you if you don't have it.

Great.

Everybody ready for The Big Chill? Been up on the roof Menthol? Best of luck to you all.
-
Sun shining at the moment, but there's a cold wind,
Got hot water in the tank from sun, so not to bad.
-
All good in Kaya at the moment - the sun's lovely, might put my washing out!
-
I'm not saving it's cold in Kava but my brass monkey has been rendered incomplete. :) :)
I've got my thermal undies on today for our walk along the Kordan. ;D ;D
-
Minus 1.2 at present here in sunny/moonlit Uzumlu. But its blowing a hoolie so the wind chill will be taking it a lot lower than that. Central heating is working well and the electric blanket is on...... ;D ;D ;D

Ended up being something of a farce, Colwyn.
Hired the lovely Kadir to put the anti-freeze in. Whilst he was fetching a wrench to unscrew the cap on the panel, he left the roof hatch open and a bird got into the house onto the top floor. Discovered this when youngest son went to use bathroom and it flew into his face.
Cue Kadir and I coaxing the sparrow out from under a bed, then chasing it around the room whilst trying to throw a scarf over it to catch it. Eventually caught and as I carried it carefully to the window, it struggled to escape, I panicked thinking I was going to let go and managed to crack my head on the very low door jamb of the doorway that was designed clearly for a Hobbit house.
Bird escaped. I had huge lump on top of my head. Kadir nearly crying with remorse and empathy pains (or laughter, I wasn't sure). Husband tut-tutting and suggesting hospital, big 6'7" son too scared to go up to his room in case the bird 'got him again'.
Caught bird again. Swore at it profusely. Let it out of window. Sat with bag of ice on head. Kadir stayed for dinner, re-lived the head cracking incident several times and at intervals repeatedly told my husband that he had, 'Hard wife with strong head. Should be very proud'. Husband distinctly unimpressed.
This morning went out of door to bring in firewood and got dripped on from something leaking on the roof ...... 'KADIR!' *
* By that I don't mean it was actually Kadir leaking from the roof. But perhaps a burst water tank. Will find out later when he investigates.

How cold did it get?
-
I have just braved the balcony and the barometer reads -2C. It feels like -22C.
-
I remember in around 2007 they predicted -16C which was always going to be ridiculous. I put our thermometer outside and the lowest it went all night was +4C. But it felt like -16. I've never known +4C to feel anything like as cold as that was :)
-
Our lowest overnight outside temperature here in Fethiye was measured at 0, but after taking the dogs for a walk I was frozen feels like -16 out there.
-
Well it dropped well below freezing last night up here in sunny Uzumlu. Neighbours solar panel split last night. :-[ :-\
-
They obviously hadn't read your post on how to put anti freeze in your solar panels Eric ;)
-
Went down to 1C last night and thermometer on the terrace currently reads 12C, but by 'eck it feels bloody cold out there.
Just got back from taking the dogs out and I'm more than ready for a mug of salep, a hot shower and my fleecy jim-jams!
-
Just spent an hour walking around Kaya village, the inhabitants were conspicuous by their absence. The puddles were still iced over in the more sheltered spots.

Totally.
My thermometer is currently reading -1C up here in the Ovacik hills. However, the Northerly wind is bowling down the mountain sounding like several runaway express trains and cutting you in two with an icy axe. Feels bitter to the bone and just a few minutes of it makes your head ache. It is howling down the chimney and turning the log fire into an inferno.
Love it :D
-
It's a cold sunny morning in Kaya and the good news isw the winds have died down, it's almost like summer ;D ;D
The weather should start to warm up tomorrow.
Off to the friday market and a stroll along the Kordan and a coffee somewhere in the warm.

It's about adapting, isn't it? It's bloody cold, but no worse than we're used to - it's just we don't have the central heating, insulation etc that 'protected' us in the UK.
So add an extra layer, buy a hot water bottle, sling another log on the burner and snuggle under a blanket......and it's rather nice. I was actually sweating last night!

Can anyone remember seeing snow on the beaches anytime.? Just looking at the
perfect scene on the Olu' camera's and it made me wonder.

This image was posted on Facebook this morning and captioned as the Seafront in Antalya. In fact, it's the Lakeshore in Geneva and was taken in 2005.

We've seen snowflakes falling at Oludeniz in the past but it didn't settle.
We had a light dusting of snow overnight in Kaya once but it had gone by mid-morning. We knew a couple of lads there in their mid-twenties who said they'd never seen snow until that day.

What a difference 24 hours make. At 3pm yesterday we were walking in Kaya with full thermal gear freezing the village was like a ghost town.
This 3pm today sitting by the pool which this morning had 3-4mm of ice on it. The poor frogs looked very sad so i broke the ice up so they could get on with life ;D ;D.
-
It may not look that cold, but it is b****y freezing!
