Free bus travel for the 60+ crowd is to be curtailed. The Government has sneaked through changes hoping that nobody will notice until it is too late. Many routes will be defined as ineligible for bus pass travel starting next Wednesday. "Local" travel will not be affected - (yet?). Lib Dems are going to try to contest this on Monday.

Over 60s bus passes are only accepted after 9.00am. Your modern senior citizen, intent on an early start to their great day out, is not going to be deterred by such pettifogging bureaucracy and will attempt to blag their way onto the bus grandly waving their pass. As a whole queue do this the bus driver is heard to announce "Too early! Too early! Too early!" to each of passengers.

P.S. The story is in today's Times. But I notice that the date for introduction is 1st April. The Times wouldn't be pulling my leg would it?

They could be Colwyn, if it was in The Sun that would be a different matter,  then you`d know it was true.   :D

That will put a stop to my Mother-in-laws and friends wanderings. Once a week they go to the bus station and jump on any bus they fancy for a day out.

This is devastating news for our senior citizens. Not least because everyone over 60 gets up at half past four.

One of the detailed changes, according to BBC News, is that bus passes cannot be used on services where over 50% of the seats can be booked. A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said this would "clarify" the scheme - no, really, she did. I can picture the scene down at Bristol Bus Station:

"Scuse I Drive, is this bus bookable for more than 50% of seats?".

"Oh ahh, this is a 357 which is a 55% bookable bus. You'll be looking for a 327 which is only 35%".

"Cheers Drive, when do the 327s go?".

"Tuesdays. Cept when there's an R in the month".
