After years of people trying to persuade me, unsuccessfully, that darts and snooker are sports the IT crowd now want to have Gaming classified as a sport. What? Playing on the computer is a sport? Some people want in the Olympics (the sound you hear is ancient Greeks turning in their graves). This is just nuts, isn't it? Or am I dinosaurianly out-of-date and failing to recognize the sporting prowess and dedication of Keyboard Athletes?
What do you think?

Well, once they introduced snowboarding as an Olympic Sport it was all downhill from there. ;)
-
This topic was on Radio 5 Live this morning when the presenters asked for the definition of a sport.
Two of my favourites were 1. you need to change clothes to play a sport and 2. you need a shower after the activity. :)

H, that rules out shooting and archery. Not the best two groups to annoy if they make you a target, they're rather good at hitting those.
-
So, walking the dog ? ;)
Anyone fancy taking me on at the "25 metre Poop-A-Scoop" ?
-
More like a shovel with your mate! ;)

I believe that "dogging " is a strenuous outdoor spectator sport that requires clothing removal and
showering but I would imagine its sponsorship possibilities would be fairly limited.
Another possible event could be " synchronized f#rting " with pub teams competing. I can visualize
circumstances where a change of clothing and a shower would be required, and I would imagine the
sponsorship possibilities would attract companies such as Air Freshener manufacturers and the like. :)

I can only see the need for a shower and change of clothes if a player suffered a 'follow though'.

. . .and gas masks Kevin3. ;)

" Gas Mask Dating ". Now that has possibilities.!! It would be Inclusive, cause' you wouldn't know how rough
the other party was, and that alone would satisfy the PC brigade.
But hang on a minute, you wouldn't know if the winners were elated. ???

Anyway, getting back "on piste", the ancient board game of chess is a reconised sport of the International Olympic Committee. Not only that, there are calls for it to classified as an extreme sport. At a recent tournament, there were 2 deaths attributed to high stress levels caused by playing the game. These must have been the unfit ones, as in order to be at your peak, you need to be both mentally and physically at the top of your game. It as been suggested that you can loose the same weight during a game of chess than a game of football!

Change of clothing? Definitely; technical sports gear to combat excessive perspiration. A shower after? Oh yes, a cold one preferably!
