Cat lover or Cat hater and I am neither but are you like me totally fed up with the huge number of them and people that have 3, 5 and even 6 that do nothing but kill birds and defecate all over your garden? The Tomcats neutered or otherwise that spray all over your plants and bushes, the horrendous stink of it all? Why do they have so many, all they do is feed them! What use are they, we are not overrun with mice and most are too timid to take on a rat if they saw one!

They have cost me a fair bit of money as well, we have feral cats round us sleep on our balcony furniture and use them for scratching posts, and crap in our garden.

We had dogs until we bought on farm land and our neighbouring Farmer told us to get a cat. We took his advise after we discovered a mouse in the house. We have been mouse free in our house for 30 years now. Mice do not come into the house, we know they are around because we see them in the stable and outbuildings.
Our last cat used to keep watch over our chickens but never harmed them. We once noticed a small hole near the chicken house and knew it was a stoat or a weasel, who kill chickens a couple of days later, the offending animal was lying on our back step.. A present from the cat. We have three acres of land so lots of room for a cat. Cats, have their place and do a good job.
I do not agree with people having lots of cats and allowing them into the neighbours gardens to foul the place.
We have always had a cat to do a good job first and be a pet second.

some of our neighbour's have cats. They seem to spend their time sleeping all day
and their night's switching everyone else's security lights on so they can see where they're crapping. !!
And the owners are called "cat lovers".

I don't have strong opinions on this. I'd just like to see them classified as vermin (along with grey squirrels which already are). My views about cats were not enhanced by being clawed by one in Koycegiz which left me gushing blood from three fingers.

I have three cats, two we brought with us from England and the third was a stray, who we had spayed and has had all her injections. We have a litter tray which I know one of the cat's uses. I don't know where the other two go to, but usually cats bury their mess. There is a problem with Tom cats around especially when the female cat is in season, that is why ours have been done. Dogs are a far worse problem as I am concerned because they do far bigger poos and usually here in Turkey the mess is just left by the owners. There is a big problem with stray cats here and the reason is because the owners don't have them spayed. Unfortunately a lot of people who come here on holiday fee the stray cats and this encourages to return to the complex. I am a cat lover, and often our cats don't like people either.

We have new neighbours with 3 cats....totally fed up with the cat poo in our flower beds and on top of lawn......tried powders.......no.......now trying high pitched sound gadget.....so far cost £40............we dont have pets.......... so not happy..........rather have given the money to the 3 C's.

Well a lot of these cats were here before you Brits,that have taken over their land,
And I suppose they think you might go back to were you come from,if they Crap on it as you. Put it,

We knew the people who previously live in our house had 3 large cats, but we were totally unprepared by the amount of friends they had. Cats poo everywhere, and certainly not buried, on the decorative stones in the front garden, and on the gravel. Luckily my greyhound made sure they were not welcome in the back garden!! I too tried all the remedies I googled on the lap top, but then I put lines of canes on the gravel interspersed with wooden skewers. After a while the cats moved on elsewhere, but the canes and skewers remain. At least when my dog has a poo I clear it up. Cats just go wherever they like, and putting your hands in their excrement (even with gloves on) is really disgusting!!

My 9 yr old grandaughter Izzy was stroking a kitten last week from across the road - owned by a Turkish neighbour - when it bit her nose - not badly but showing the faintest sign of a skin break.
I talked with my daughter on the phone - as i am in the UK - and we decided bathing in TCP should be OK but she was clearly concerned.
The following day (Sunday) Izzy was not herself and hot / signs of a cold so my daughter decided to take no chances and went to the devlet. She had a tetanus injection and they were told to go back the following day to see the Infection Specialist but in the meantime to find out if the cat had had its injections.
The neighbour was very obliging - confirmed it had - called over his young daughter to show all her scratches and said "we would not let this happen if the kitten had not been inoculated" - he even offered to run them back to the devlet the following day!
So back they went - imagine the devlet on a Monday morning!! - said they didn't want to have any further treatment as Izzy was feeling OK and probably was just suffering from too much heat - but here is the rub.................they were not charged at all but asked to come back a week later to sign a form to state the cat was still alive and if that was not the case to go back immediately!
Therefore you must remember there are many many cat's around that are "wild" and can be a real threat to your well being - young or old.

hmmmmm well I have only found 3 cures which require a lot of vigilance and one I haven't yet tried. a) shallow dishes with water and jeyes fluid, they don't like it, fences -- pia and expensive, c) run hissing at them at every possible occasion throwing water over them I now watch 3 of my neighbours 6 cats walk past my hose and into the house next doors garden for their fouling and the other two wander off somewhere but had that not worked I had planned to buy a long nosed long tailed short legged Terrier --- some people call them Crocodiles :)

Oh you do make me laugh Colwyn :) I don't know about now but they were officially Vermin in Cyprus in the 1960's due to the huge number no doubt produced from the "lovely little kittens" owned by all the British Administrators, Police and Military who then buggered off at Independence and left them to multiply! (Actually there were also "dog shoots" as they were more dangerous albeit smaller in number). I agree with Jacqui as when I lived in the Country I had a cat to keep the mice and rats down one cat -- not bloody SIX! I wouldn't mind but people who just put out food and water for their animals and let them roam are NOT Animal lovers! If they were they would take better care of them!
