LGBT activists vow to defy Turkish authorities in Istanbul
« on: June 24, 2017, 20:16:39 PM »
LGBT activists have vowed to defy Turkish authorities after tomorrow's Istanbul Pride event was banned for the third year in a row.

Could be interesting in Istanbul tomorrow. It'll no doubt give the riot and secret police a bit more practise.

I wonder how much longer it'll be before RTE makes homosexuality illegal ?

Worrying rather than interesting - a few folk I know are intent on marching tomorrow.  Just spoken to one of them, and all I'm hoping is that they're still around for a chat by Monday morning.

As it stands, the wee fella can make farting in bed a crime and there's not a jot anyone can do about it.

I'd have you jailed just for farting mate, never mind in bed  ;)

Anyway, march going ahead at 5pm local time.  The council operated web cameras in Taksim and surrounding area all been switched off - working fine elsewhere...

Currently 22 folks detained, including Pride Istanbul's legal team.

Polis blocked off roads leading into the Taksim/Istiklal area and stopped anyone wearing anything resembling rainbow colours.  Poor old Joseph would have been well fecked then...

As usual, tear gas, water cannon and thuggery from plain clothes Polis, AKP neanderthals and right wing ******wits.

Saying that, there's a good old party right now in the streets of Cihanger - no doubt that'll be targetted shortly.

Just can't stand folks enjoying themselves...

As already mentioned, they moved in with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse those folks in Cihanger (close to Taksim).

This was a bunch of kids, with no malicious intent, who were treated like criminals because they don't conform to the "norm", as laid down by the ruling party.  Let's hope they don't go down the path trodden by Turkey's new BFF Qatar.
