Title: My cup runneth over (or at least I hope it will)
Post by: Highlander on May 01, 2014, 20:35:44 PM
I hope that I am not pushing my luck here but it is for a cause close to my heart and it revolves around an event which happens only every four years so I thought I would give it ago.

Three different events for you to chose to participate in  – a tall order, I know but hopefully there will be enough interest for all three to succeed and we will raise loads of money for underprivileged children. Please feel free to join in all three if you wish  ;)

ONE: THE CUP WINNERS:

(http://s24.postimg.org/6cptgjm0h/trophy.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

I have randomly allocated the numbers 1 – 32 to the teams. You choice a number and when all 32 have been taken I will reveal who your team is.
If you choice one of the top 8 seeded teams you are asked to donate £ 15, a team from the 8-16 group and it’s £ 10.00, a team from 16-24 will cost you a fiver and a team from the last group a mere £ 2.00.

WINNER RECEIVES PRIZE TO THE VALUE OF £ 20:00

TWO: THE WINNER OF THE GOLDEN BOOT

(http://s23.postimg.org/dhwt02zvr/wc2010_goldenboot.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Much more straightforward this time. I have randomly allocated the numbers 1 – 30 to the favourites to win the golden boot (top scorer in the tournament. You choice a number and when all 30 have been taken I will reveal who your player is. It’s only £ 5.00 per player.

WINNER RECEIVES PRIZE TO THE VALUE OF £ 20:00

THREE: THE SUPPORTERS BUS

(http://s4.postimg.org/l8i3rf87t/team_bus1.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

THE SUPPORTERS BUS:
My favourite. A ticket will cost a pledge of 5 lira for every game that England win that’s a maximum of only 35 lira. You can also upgrade to first class with a pledge of 10 lira per England win. I am sure there are many, many England supporters on here and I’m hoping to fill a 40 seater.

Andy Murray as far as I know is not a member so I will start the bus rolling by buying the first ticket.

Please, please remember giving on CBF will never be required or indeed expected.

But hey, who cares, it's for the 3Cs. I would like to know how much I owe and if it's okay to take it into the 3Cs shop. Or don't we know the amount yet?

Cat 1: Can either drive the bus or sit next to the driver please?
Cat2: A ticket for that please?
Cat 3: A 1st class ticket for there please so I can take Mrs Hamets as well.  8)

Hamlet

Cat 1 - you pick a number. That number has been allocated to a team EG Germany England etc. Do you want to pick a number
Cat 2 - I have allocated number 16
Cat 3 - do you want a seat for both you and mrs hamlet

Forgive me for being thick  :)
Title: Re: My cup runneth over (or at least I hope it will)
Post by: Hamlet on May 04, 2014, 21:14:54 PM
Probably me being thick John, not you   ;)

So, if I pick number 1 in Cat 1
Accept 16 in Cat 2
Then buy 1st class in Cat 3

Is that correct?  :-\

Dear John (no pun intended) why do you make things so awkward for us all and yourself, have read your comp several times, and me and many others are none the wiser, but hey ho you will get our money out of us to support the charity, even though basically we haven't got a clue what you are on about!!  :)  :)
Title: Re: My cup runneth over (or at least I hope it will)
Post by: Highlander on May 04, 2014, 22:27:49 PM
echogirl1 - I do apologise if people think that I have made things awkward. Let me try and explain

Competition One - Winners:

There are 32 countries in the competition. If I asked members to choice a country there would be a rush to pick the favourites – Brazil, Germany etc. etc. Once the “top” teams had been chosen, it would be natural for other members to perhaps decide not to participate because of the reduced chance of winning. So I randomly allocated the numbers 1 -32 to the different countries so that no-one will know which team they have until all the numbers are taken.

Golden Boot Winner:

Exactly the same reasoning as above.

Supporters Bus:

You pick a seat and pledge 5 lira for every game that England win. If they win the World Cup then that would be 35 lira. When you opted for a First Class Seat and if England win you would be asked to donate 70 lira. If England progress to the Quarter Finals and get beat, they will have won 4 games and you would then be asked to donate 4 x 10 lira.

I hope that helps  :).

I also sincerely hope that I haven't put people off from participating :(

Post by: Highlander on May 21, 2014, 19:12:02 PM
Pi55y - you beat me to it as I was going to post about this tonight.

The bus will continue to trundle along but I am afraid that we will have to cancel the Winners and Top Scorers competitions as we do not have enough participants.

I have to confess that this is a huge disappointment to me especially as we have 1362 reads but as scunner has always said it is not compulsory for members to take part in charity events on here.

Members have supported the miners campaign and should be applauded for doing so

I can only apologise to hamlet, mrs hamlet, menthol, jim fraser, anne, lotty and jacqui harvey who all step up to the plate.

And I can only also apologise to the kids as well for not being able to help them on this occasion. :( :( :(

there is only so much money to go around and I am not sure the football theme appealed to all of us I am so sorry John that you have had to cancel your comp. I am afraid it has been hijacked by the miners appeal, and the promises auction, don't be disheartened we all know how much the 3C's mean to you, and they will benefit from the auction.xx
Title: Re: My cup runneth over (or at least I hope it will)
Post by: Highlander on May 22, 2014, 20:04:46 PM
Certainly not hijacked echogirl1 because the miner's appeal and the promises are both such worthy causes. But I think I you what you mean.

Anyway I thought I'd give the supporters bus one more push up the hill.

(http://s3.postimg.org/y1f4r0pi7/team_bus1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/y1f4r0pi7/)

Here's how I had hoped it would work.

A ticket will cost a pledge of 5 lira for every game that England win that’s a maximum of 35 lira. You can also upgrade to first class for a pledge of 10 lira per England win. I was sure there are many England supporters on here and that even non football lovers would come along for the trip.

There are still 20 seats left. Can I interest anyone in a ticket. Here's who you will be travelling with.

My son and the dog would like a seat each, that is if dogs are allowed on the bus, p.s. he's very clean!

I've got no one sitting next to me, is it because I talk too much?  Please can I have a travel buddy, I promise to shut up if you want me to!

H put Mrs B (Ann) down to sit next to Kayakebab. With that combination we will need ear plugs providing up front for us please as Mrs B can't half talk too.  ;)

I bet if you said it there was a free bar on the bus there would be queues forming.

Ok John, I think you have done enough to fill the bus, so, I will take & pay for the remaining tickets and I will stand at the bus stop to grab enough people to fill the bus.

Thanks hamlet - echogirl1 has also previously said she would take another seat.

So if anyone else wants to jump the queue ahead of hamlet and echogirl1 who are already seated I'll leave the remaining seats until 7:00pm tomorrow.

Well I can only apologise for an unmitigated disaster. Al I can say is that it seemed like a good idea at the time.

 :( :( :(.

My thanks to all who took part.

There will be another opportunity soon.

You are all very generous.

You will see that I have started another sweepstake which I hope you will take part in.

If you insist on contributing to this one - a fiver would be splendid. But, as I said, please do not feel obligated.
