Parascending Accident 19/05/09
« on: May 23, 2009, 12:11:29 PM »
I visited Olu Deniz on Tuesday 19th May.  Unfortunately there was a parascending accident, where a couple of guys hit the ground very hard.  Their parachute had folded in on itself.
I am now back in England, but would like to know if they are ok? Having done this myself in Olu in 2005, I am now very scared at the thought of ever doing it again.

I doubt it's the same one. The report is dated 18th May and covers the previous week's events.

My daughter told me of this accident, but, she did not know full details, only that they were badly injured.  Let's hope they are making a good recovery now.

Let's just clarify the subject here. The accident involved Paragliding - jumping off Babadag with a parachute and landing on, or near, the promenade.

Parascending is when you are towed behind the speed boat in a parachute and land in the water (as at the lagoon watersports).

Hi, I've just joined the forum and seen your message. If the accident was the one I think you are talking about I witnessed it too. A chute collapsed and two persons hit the beach rather hard with a 'thump' from perhaps 50 foot. If this is the one, both persons were ok, somewhat bruised but no serious injuries.

I was sitting on the beach at Olu Deniz watching the sunset Wednesday evening, when a paraglider came down to land on the promenade. There was a man standing on the promenade and the paraglider flew straight into him as he could not avoid hitting him. The man was knocked down and appeared stunned for some time. Luckily he appeared to recover ok.I will be SO careful when I walk along there in future!!!:D
