I am getting plenty of emails via a contact us page on one of my websites. Starting "Hi, I am a web professional" or something equally meaningless and unimpressive, they inform me that my website does not feature in the top 3 search results on Google for some obscure or irrelevant phrase. They then continue, to tell me that they can make my site appear in the top 3 in Google for that search phrase, and they are expert in improving the performance of their client's websites in search engines. This, they explain, will reap far greater financial rewards than any cost they might charge me.

This is from a company of web professionals who cold contact random people via contact forms on their websites, using a hotmail or gmail email address.
