Dedicating Dives for Captive Dolphins
« on: July 06, 2010, 22:38:51 PM »
We are posting this (here and in the Dolphin topic sorry for posting twice but thought it was worth highlighting) on behalf of Ökyü who came all the way from Istanbul at her own expense to be at the Protest March last Friday. She is a very lovely person and her and her colleagues at HAYTAP who have offered amazing support to us over the Hisaronu Dolphin Park have had this very creative idea.

If you can help by contacting the Diving Schools and seeing if they would be prepared to take part please do.

Dear all, we, as HAYTAP - animal rights federation, are organizing an event in which all divers will dedicate their SUNDAY DIVES FOR CAPTIVE DOLPHINS on the 11th of July (this Sunday)... We shall both take photos and film above and under the water with campaign banner to share them with the local and the national media......

Can anyone SUGGEST diving schools in Mugla or specifically Fethiye that would give support urgently????? There were a few in the protest march, no?

And even anyone in their own city or town to organize it locally (anywhere in Turkey)?

I am now trying to prepare the Istanbul part with a few friends...

just keep in mind that we are trying to conceptualize things properly.. this is the first brief info to get people informed and maybe started to get prepared... we'll send the detailed info soon.. people would check the link below and forward it to turkish diving schools! Please!

Thank you all...

Clarification received about what is actually involved

This is an excellent idea - please circulate to the Dive Centres so they can benefit from the publicity packs and gain some free publicity in the meantime.

There will be a protest on the 11th of July 2010 named "FREE DIVERS & FREE DOLPHINS" against dolphin captivity; organized by HAYTAP (Animal Rights Activists) & SUALTI GAZETESi (UNDERWATER NEWS) which will take place all around Turkey. You can support this cause by dedicating all your Sunday dives to "CAPTIVE DOLPHINS".

Note this is not about donating the money from dives but merely dedicating the dives...

Diving schools can support this cause by organizing a press release; during which they can state that dolphin captivity is an inhuman act and that they are dedicating all their sunday dives to captive dolphins.

Diving schools can support this cause by notifying the press to join them during the protest; which could include the use of underwater posters and the use of a celebrity.

All phographs and videos taken during the protest can be sent to "SUALTI GAZETESI " (UNDERWATER NEWS) for later view.

Diving schools, swimming clubs, water sports clubs can send all their relevant contact details to :

info@sualtigazetesi.com

egesakin@sualtigazetesi.com

ayckndmr@yahoo.com.tr

oykuyagci@hotmail.com.

All participants will receive posters,, t-shirts,, press conference or press release documents, by cargo until the 11th of July 2010.

Diving schools, swimming clubs, water sports clubs, and those who are willing to protest by supporting the cause will be given a recognition notice on HAYTAP & SUALTI GAZETESI (UNDERWATER NEWS) web sites underlining the fact that " THIS DIVING CENTER SUPPORTS DOLPHIN FREEDOM" .

I can report that Lykia World diving centre, European Diving and possibly Elite are all participating in this event.

AndyLin has worked tirelessly at very short notice to arrange things and has organised an advance photo shoot of divers with Born Free Live Free t shirts etc in time for the upcoming edition of the Land of Lights where the local story will be reported.

On Sunday itself all Divers will be taking part in photo and filmimg sessions and press statements given - TNT news are coming along.

Similar events are being held all over Turkey and all photos will appear on the Under Water News web site posted above except there seems to be a problem with the link (!)

So if you were thinking of doing a dive sometime whay not this Sunday and take part in this event.

I am really looking forward to my first dive and the super dooper food at Lykia afterwards that I have only ever heard great things about.

The afternoon can be spent lazing about at Lykia or the boat trip to Butterfly Valley is an option and all included in the very reasonable price of £38.

What a fantastic idea - sadly a week too early for us otherwise we would have loved to have had a dive.   What a super way for every one to join together to support the dolphins.  Excellent !
