The Ashes starts tomorrow with great anticipation.


But let me ask a couple of questions. What was distinctive about the first ever Australian tour of Britain? And who is the only recent Australian Test player who shares this distinction?

Forget the hype from the National press . Many Australian teams come to England with their "worst team ever" and then proceed to teach and humiliate England with a master class in Test match Cricket.

Difficult for me because I don't read it. Haven't since the mid-1970s. I don't think I've missed much - except which Eastender star is bonking which Corrie star but Hilary tells me about that and I don't know any of them (or their gender).

Don't know the answer. I suspect that it has something to do with brothers, family ties or booze.

Of your three suggestions "family ties" comes closest - but it doesn't nail it. As a huge clue: the the first Australian tour took place in 1868 but due to prejudice, politics and law the second similar tour didn't happen until 120 years later - 1988.

OK got it. Sorry but I had to cheat.

One of the few things I miss. A day at Trent Bridge for a Test match.

Hand over a token couple of cans of beer at the gate. Hide the rest in the cool box under our lunch. Then start the day with a pint of Guiness and a bacon butty.

What a second day and one that Ashton Agar will remember for many a long day.

He now has the second highest Test average in history  ;).

If the rest of the series is like this it will be very exciting.

I never thought that I would ever see the day that a fellow Scot would describe test cricket as exciting.  :'(
