Deos anyone know what is killing the date palms.I've heard its some sort of black and white beatle. It seems to attack the palm and the middle just dies.Does anyone know what this is or how to cure the problem?
-
It must be Ringo or Paul as they are the only Beatles left. :)
Serious, if you google "palm beetle" you will find details and images.
-
You need to get Yoko Ono round there. She lives off of a dead Beatle.

Gary, this problem has killed several of the palms in our garden. The gardener said that this beetle came from Egypt and has devestated palm trees all across Spain & Italy and the problem has now reached Turkey.
I don't think there is any way to safeguard against this, it will be sad if we loose all of the palms down on the prom.
-
can you not spray them with a good insecticide?
-
I Don't think so, this beetle gets right into the core of the plant and lays hundreds of eggs that produce brubs that grow to the size of a coctail sausage. They destroy the tree very quickly.

-
I think what Ayshe is saying is that this beetle is so dangerous to the Palms that you should contact the local agricultural department so that they can record this (and maybe deal with it for you).

a real shame if Turkey is to lose the date palm, I hope this matter is resolved for the good.
