Title: Halifax Clarity Card
Post by: Scunner on April 16, 2016, 17:55:44 PM
I have had the Halifax card for a couple of years and use it wherever possible abroad to pay for meals, purchases and cash withdrawals from ATMS, so I know it has many benefits.

I was wondering though - do any other Halifax card holders know how best to go about getting foreign currency with it before you leave the UK? I want to get the current quoted rate (better than all the other ususal suspects) but just for £50 - £100 worth to have in case we need it early on.

It's not easy to find an ATM that dispenses Euros in the UK, there are the Travelex ones at the airport but I don't know if they charge a fee or they might set the exchange rate rather than Halifax?

Like I said, once we are abroad it's Halifax card all the way - but does anyone know if I can use it for a bit of arrival cash before we leave the UK?

I seem to recall that Marks and Spencer cash machines dispense Euros.  But that may just be here down south and this facility may not have reached the frozen wastes of Perth yet!  Worth a look though.

They're still dispensing Merks in ATMs up there. But it keeps the likes of Highlander happy.  ;)

Why not just withdraw at the arrival airport?

I am very suspicious of doing anything that involves changing currency at airports  :)

We've just travelled around Malaysia, Indonesia ,Borneo & Singapore and withdrew money from atm at airports.
You get the same rate of exchange as outside the airport.
I did however get cloned and lost around £200 but the cloning happened after using an ATM in Bali in the town, not the airport.

As a bit of reference for anyone planning travels, I used my TEB card. Withdrawal fees much less than with UK card.
The procedure after you get cloned has been complex though, had to go to the Adliye last week to make a statement and have it stamped by the Prosecutors office, that was interesting....hopefully I will get the money back as my passport shows I was in Singapore when the money was withdrawn in Bali.

Thanks KK I'll use the card at the airport then.
