Title: Still looking forward to this year's holiday ?
Post by: KKOB on April 07, 2021, 08:08:51 AM
COVID-19 cases in Turkey hit a daily 49,584 on Tuesday, the highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic.

Daily infections have doubled in a little over two weeks, meaning Turkey now tops European countries for daily infections and ranks second worldwide after India, according to data provided by Worldometer.

Well that’s really depressing and my flight out even as late as September 11th looks
Increasingly in doubt☹️
The thought of being stuck here at home doing even more gardening and decorating rather than
Spending 7 weeks out at our villa really p...ss.s me off. 😤😤

The attitude of Tourism minister Mehmet Ersoy of wanting people into the country regardless of whether being vaccinated flies in the face of the reality of the current infections in Turkey.

Never mind eh ? At least you've got a good chance of the TL dropping to 12 to the £, or maybe even lower, by the time you get out there.   ;)

If you were a betting type would you be placing bets on Turkey being be green, amber or red ??

It's a 'Red' from me Phil.

Skyscanner's already showing Turkey as a 'Red' if travelling from the UK.

Not sure what that map really shows as it also has New Zealand as red and they are practically Covid free.
But can't fly directly from the U.K. To Turkey at the moment anyway, have to go via another country, then to Istanbul and then to regional airport. Meetings taking place today and tomorrow so announcements expected. All restaurants, cafes, bars can only offer take away service from tomorrow, the start of Ramadan, until 13th May.

'Travel here may be suspended. The country may be closed or entry only possible if you are a citizen and/or meet strict requirements'.

Seems pretty clear to me.

That’s another holiday down the pan then. The Turkish Tourism Minister must have had a few to many Efes when he stated that all  will be welcome, without any sort of test or Covid passport documentation. Totally irresponsible IMO.

due to the rising number of infections.

A Government spokesman today said the total lock down does not apply to tourists.  ????  How does that work.?

Who serves them and attends to them.? And how safe is it for them.?

I’m so blooming confused re all conflicting info, some sites say all direct flights TO Turkey ( or I guess red list countries) others say it’s only coming into the UK!
Title: Re: Still looking forward to this year's holiday ?

Turkey's welcoming tourists from the UK but taking a holiday abroad is banned until the 17th of May. However, Turkey's currently on the UK's 'Amber List' and from the 14th they'll be on the 'Red List'. Anyone arriving in the UK from Turkey will then have to quarantine at a designated hotel for 14 days at a cost of approximately £1750.

I think you can pretty much write-off holidays to Turkey for the next 6 - 8 weeks and probably into September,

We're booked for October, which is when we usually go anyway, but still not convinced about being able to go then. Just keeping fingers crossed   :-\

Thanks KKOB   :) Sorry I don’t think I finished my post earlier re meant to say flights being banned / cancelled! That’s a combination of old age memory c@@p & a 10 hour drive home from Scotland yesterday!
I guess we will just have to wait and see how the cases go in Turkey and the 3 weekly reviews, we have flights booked with Turkish Airlines for end of May the day Boris announced the travel info we got an email saying our flight has been moved to the next day ( fully expected it to be a cancellation email ) if we get to go we are not planning to come back until December anyway so hopefully the situation re this damn virus will have improved loads for all countries by then.
And god forbid it hasn’t we will fly via a country on a green or amber list as neither of us are prepared to pay that ridiculous amount to quarantine in a scabby travel lodge or similar for 10 days, however came to that stupid amount per person ( I know it was done to act as a deterrent to put folk off travelling to red list countries but even so!)the word  grabbers springs to mind!

You won't get away with that. Border Farce may be causing chaos at the ports, but that's just one of the scams they're on the lookout for.

From 4am from 12th may, Turkey will be in the red zone. No direct flights from then, so maybe call Turkish airlines customer service Karen, or you should receive an email

There are 2 flights a week from Kiev to Dalaman, heard some are travelling that way. Booked on skyscanner I believe, but there is a fb group called fly with me that has lots of info on, also about this route.

I don/t think I would rely on any facts and figures coming out of Turkey on which to base a decision whether to

fly out there. The medics were disputing  the reports a while back. Turkey needs tourists.

Oh well that’s the kibosh put on that idea then re flying to uk from a green or amber country were more then happy to quarantine indoors but not paying those stupidly inflated prices for an airport staycation - can’t think of anything worse then having to stay put in a travelodge for 10 days!

Hiya Lissa iv just had the email now from Turkish Airlines saying flight is cancelled - I completely understand why but am gutted truth be told  :( that group Come Fly With Me is really good great info re finding flights to Turkey via other countries

Hopefully by December when you wanted to return, the situation will be better, but nobody can know. I have heard that the prices of flights with Turkish Airlines and Pegasus back to U.K. Until Tuesday are very expensive. One report was £700 per person, another said more.

What a shame these airlines do this re inflating the prices when they know folk need to get back somewhere fast shoukd not be allowed!
Yes here is to hoping the Covid situation will be greatly improved world wide by Dec!

It's low. Like many other provinces they've reduced the number of tests to keep the results low.

Burasi Turkiye.  ;)
