I work in the mobile industry and sell 2nd hand phones on ebay mainly.

just a reminder that if you get a pay as you go sim card, you will have to top up every 3 months no matter if you got credit on it or not. This is the case for turkcell and telsim networks, not sure about avea but I wouldnt touch them considering the costs they charge for mobile to mobile. After not toping up for 3 months the line is cut off.

Anne, Agazina says mobile 2 mobile is expensive with Avea compared with the other more known ones, like Turkcell.
A turkish sim card means you make local calls in Turkey more cheaply using local networks, rather than UK and back calls.
The other point is ..if you don't top your Turkish sim card up inside every 3 months, it closes down and you lose that number and any credit left on it. ie You start again next visit, unless someone keeps your phone card in Turkey to top up. I think they need that phone also.
I believe it all gets linked up during registration. Passport Required.

My Turkish phone card expired under the 3 month rule in August, but when I was out there at same time as you in September I simply bought a top up card and the same number I had before was still active......

Maybe the admin involved are not as prompt and eager as in the UK...LOL
I wonder if this was just a lapse or if there is a little more leniency. We need one of our friends in Turkey to find out chum.

Apparently you only lose your credit if you dont top it up, but your number will be lost if you dont use it for 7 months which sounds a bit more sensible, this information was kindly donated by Attila at Orange so a very good source

WE ARE THINKING OF BUYING A TURKISH SIM.HOWEVER AS WE WILL ONLY BE OVER FOR 2WEEKS IN MAY AND 2 WEEKS IN OCTOBER,WOULD IT STILL BE WORTH DOING AS I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU LOOSE YOUR TOP UP IF THE PHONE HAS'NT BEEN USED WITHIN 3 MONTHS?
DOES IT MEAN THAT WE WOULD JUST HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER TOP UP EACH TIME?
