Olu Deniz Question
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:50:24 AM »
If Olu Deniz is the lagoon at the end of the beach, why is it I have seen maps describing, what I know as, the Ovacik area as Olu Deniz.  Is this a mistake, or is there a reason for it?

Ah, OK.  So, it began as Olu Deniz and was named Ovacik to differentiate once it got more built up?

No, it was always Ovacik as far as I know, but the local authority area is collectively known as Olu Deniz. You can see the "Welcome to Olu Deniz" sign as you enter Ovacik, courtesy of Olu Deniz Belediyesi folk.

The main beach at what most people call Oludeniz Beach is actually called Belcekiz Beach. Only the lagoon should properly be called Oludeniz.

And, as said before, the area of Hisaronu, Ovacik and Oludeniz is covered by Oludeniz Belediye.

Yes I knew the lagoon was the only bit called Olu Deniz.  I was just thrown by a couple of maps showing a dot, clearly in Ovacik but with Olu Deniz written by it. The first time I thought it was a mistake.  Thanks for clearing that up for me chaps.
