Bars in H fined for playing music too loud !!!
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:43:38 AM »

A friend of ours who lives in H has told us this morning that several bars in Bar street have recieved massive fines for playing their music too loud .  I hope this is true as most people will feel thats a move in the right direction    Has anyone else any knowledge of this ?  Our friend said some of the fines were about 5.000 TL !!
Can anyone else out there at the moment confirm this  good news  ?

I'm unable to confirm this but do know of another bar, located nowhere near bar street and not renowned for high volume music, that was fined 4000TL two weeks ago!
Unlike Sleuth I am not delighted to hear this news as this is the last thing that already struggling business' need during a very difficult season!
I do wholeheartedly agree with niose controls and restrictions but I do not condone the zero tolerance and no warning mentality that appears to be being implemented by a new team of jandarma in the area. At the end of the day bar street is bar street and if you don;t like loud music then there are plenty more options for customers to choose from in Hisaronu!

I totally agree with you Linda. It has been bad enough trying to earn a living this year. We use the Tropical Bar who have the Jandarma parked outside ALL evening due to it being at the end of the road.

When we used to holiday there, we knew of areas where the noise was bedlham especially after 10pm.  We would stick to the 'quieter' areas, then run the gauntlet of the din, back to the quiet of the hotel.  Quite a few meals spoilt by the rising nose levels, meaning we did not linger.  We were visiting Hisaronu about a month ago and the din at 11ish was horrendous.  We popped into a jewellers and the door had to be closed because we couldn't hear over the racket.  Something needs to be done.

Sorry Linda I disagree with you.  The `law` has it that "after 12 all music must be at a reasonable and tolerable volume and doors etc must be shut"  this `law` has supposedly been in existence for at least a couple of years to my knowledge and it has been abused. So come on.. they have had plenty of warning. Finally the Belideye /  Gendarma  has had enough, and who can blame them.. The noise volume in Bar street, and recently some side streets  has been a major complaint by hundreds of visitors for years. One bar trying to `out noise` the other bar to entice visitors in , thats been the young turkish bar staffs  mentalites for years as everyone knows. Well finally at long last somethings being done to curb this problem.. and good luck to them. As for your comment about a difficult season out there this year and thats the last thing the bars need right now.. well I feel sorry for all the establishments out there that are suffering right now, but we always knew this day would come as there are too many bars, too many restaurants, too many repetitive shops. A sudden drop in visitors  and this problem gets exposed and thats whats happening.  Lets hope that a quiter Hisaronu is on its way and it might help in Hisaronu losing its comparisons to Marmaris

Mercury, believe me, I love all kinds of music as anyone who knows me will testify.  I like it also in the bars, on our terrace, and background music in restaurants. But at night out and about I like to be able to hear myself and others talk, and thats becoming increasingly difficult over the years. You say you frequent the Tropical bar... do you. when in  there want a nice acceptable volume with the music played  in there ?  if the volumes reasonable why worry about the Gendarma outside ?  you surely have nothing to worry about ?

I go for the music and the great staff and because I have known the family for many years. Barrie doesnt really care for Hissy but he knows I like to get my music fix so we go every couple of weeks. The music in there is loud but not unbearable. I am not worried about the Jandarma but I think it puts people off going in there because they think that it is the bar that is a problem so they need to be stationed outside of it. Total rubbish of course. They are there because of the traffic in that area.

I never go to Hisoranu because I hate all that noise with the bars all trying to compete
That said I do know that when I frequented Paspatur in Fethiye most nights when I first came to live here 6 years ago, the Jandarma would visit frequently because of noise complaints.
To be fair to them they would ask the bars to turn down the noise or close their doors first, and they would visit later to check if the requests were complied with, only the bars who ignored the requests were fined.

We were in Hisaronu tonight and to be honest I was disgusted that there was loud music blasting from 'Time Out' as the call to prayer was broadcast. The music did not stop nor was the volume lowered.Am I right in thinking that a few years ago the music volume was reduced/switched off when there was the call to prayer?

"Bar Street" whether in Hisaranou or Marmaris means only one thing to me "lively".  They are both resorts that holiday makers enjoy.  If I want a lively night out myself then they are the places I would generate towards. You can find quieter areas to eat and socialise in Ovacik and Kaya and down in the town itself so there is plenty or choice should you want a quieter evening I do understand there are residential homes and hotels backing onto the streets of Hisaranou but if you don't want to hear loud music then either don't have your home there or if staying in a hotel read the brochure description.  Most will describe the accommodation as being nearby to lively bars and music.  It is what it is and everyone knows it as such.  Restrictions are needed but what holidaymaker wants to sleep before 11.00 pm? If they do then they've made the wrong choice of resort and afterall that is exactly what it is "a holiday" venue.
