flour confusion!
« on: September 27, 2011, 22:52:08 PM »
I'm trying to work out flour types! Ladydiver has told me about sade - plain flour,  and kek unu - cake flour, but the one I have in my cupboard isn't either of these.
It's ozel amacli - this means special purpose...
So can I make cakes with it as it is or do I need bicarbonate of soda with it?

Help!!

Ozel Amacli Un Turkish all purpose flour is normally used in Turkish bread making.

You would need bicarb' for cake or bread making with all purpose flour.

Linda,
If it is an all purpose flour, you can use to make anything which needs flour, if cake making use bicarb with it.

kayakabab,
It is as it says "all purpose" strong enough to make bread light enough to make cakes but you will need to use bicarb if making bread or cakes as it is not self raising. A very good all round buy.
Most "Turkish bread recipes" use all purpose flour.

Thank you both, ladydiver has told me the bicarb quantities so fingers crossed later today!
I will be using my silicon baking tins for the first time, still can't believe they're not going to melt!

Whilst "SADE" means plain, it actually means that it isn't flavoured, i.e. Lemon, Nut, Chocolate flavoured.

Kek Unu is what you'd normally associate with SR Flour as it already has some Bicarbonate of Soda added although not as much as in the UK.
