Rain coming thru windows
« on: October 09, 2011, 18:31:42 PM »
Does anyone else have problems with rain coming thru doors and windows.  The driving rain just poured thru our window and door in our lounge, one minute we were eating our dinner and the next water everywhere.  We recently fitted weather drip rails to the bottom of the frame outside but these appear to be as good as choclate teapots:D Any solutions would be welcome

If you have gaps around the frames you need to mastic with the appropriate silicone. It took me a while to do our apartment windows and doors, but seems to have cured the problem.

The mastic doesnt always work as it doesnt stand up to the summer heat!! Try waterproof swimming pool grout  ;)

No gaps round the frame seems to flood in at the bottom of the door threshold and the same with the window.

the windows leaking sound like they were fitted with no rubber or silicone bedding, if they are sited directly onto the marble or stone slab that could be a start to finding the problem.

We have the same problem and always on the wall facing the direction of the sea.  Took me ages to locate where it was coming in around the window but have found it tonight and will silicone - the door still a mystery - I always put an old beach towel down on the floor if heavy rain is forecast and that stops it getting too out of hand.

Make sure the drain holes in the door frame are not blocked
