How to Get to Koca Calis, Plus interrogation.
« on: April 02, 2013, 17:46:59 PM »
Sorry for all the questions, but we've been meaning to get down there for ages. Just need to know if it's as nice as we've heard & worth the effort.I really hope so.

1.Can you get to Koca Calis on the dolmus from Calis & if so,what time is the latest one back ?
2.What is the beach like?
3.Do you pay for sunbeds or just buy a few bevvies during the day from the nearest bar?
4.Which of the bars/restaurants come recommended.
5.Is Koca Calis the sort of place for a full evening out i.e Meal & Drinks.
6.How many bars & restaurants actually are there in Koca Calis.

1.Can you get to Koca Calis on the dolmus from Calis & if so,what time is the latest one back ?
Yes - just get the dolmus from "downtown" Calis to the dolmus "station" which is almost in Koca Calis - or in season, just ask if they will drop you at the Surf Club as many of them will carry on that far as its only another 300 yds. Not sure about times as we always walk there.

2.What is the beach like?
Generally pebbly, but sandy at the water line. Some of the bars & restaurants cover the pebbles with sand to make it more comfortable to sit out on the beach.

3.Do you pay for sunbeds or just buy a few bevvies during the day from the nearest bar?
Up til now - just keep buying drinks and you dont pay for a sunbed.

4.Which of the bars/restaurants come recommended.
Thats another story. Surf Club is good but there can be a lack of attentivencess at times. I'm sure others will have something to say about where else is recommended.

5.Is Koca Calis the sort of place for a full evening out i.e Meal & Drinks.
Yes - but its not so busy in the evenings - not all the bars stay open at night especially near the start and end of the season. I can recommend the Surf Club BBQ night (usually a Friday in the season) as they also put on some entertainment like the fire dancers.

6.How many bars & restaurants actually are there in Koca Calis.

I'd guess at about 5-6 beachfront places if they are all open this year plus one or two a little more inland.

Hope that helps - I'm sure others will add and contradict my answers.

Ian

I think iank your pretty much spot on,  during the day i prefer the surf cafe end but at night i prefer to eat at defne pension and then go for a drink at sands bar, which is about the busiest and pretty much like a uk pub as you can get in turkey,  the restaurants on the beach other than the surf cafe on BBQ night  are ok but are normally very quite and really are more suited for lunch times,  everyone to there own so give it a try to sum up the best way to describe Koca is Marmite love it or hate it !!

you can find koca by walking along the prom with your back to the water taxi bridge for about 25 - 30 minutes, just head towards  for the kite surfers  and thats the start,at the surf cafe ...

And mine. I prefer Koca Calis in so many ways but mainly because it feels like the country I fell in love with all those years ago.

Must admit, in all the years we've been going to Calis we've never spent a lot of time down that end, but this topic has made me determined to give it a try this year.  The weather when we go in May is ideal for walking so think that's on the list now.   :)
