Fethiye usual summer temperatures
« on: September 09, 2013, 17:21:34 PM »
Having spent 2 weeks in Fethiye last May, I was told by a lovely old ex pat bar owner called Joyce  on the seafront, that living in fethiye is lovely but for the fact that for 2-3 months in  summer the heat is constantly over 50c. Is it really that hot for that length of time ?
Would love to live there but that would put me off.

Before being bombarded with "official temperature is measured in the shade at a height of 1m ( I may be wrong about 1m)" have a look at the official government site and you will see the recorded results are lower  than DIY measurements.

And there ıs not a lot of shade. The high temps are all day , the humidity is very high and even at night the temps don't go down much.

Temps in July/Aug range from hot to Bloo dy hot!!but its the nights as Quackers says is the worst.Even with fans a/c etc trying to sleep is a problem and then the following day tiredness hits you. For us these months are a no;no.

It's not just the heat, it's the humidity that gets to you. When you walk outside it's like being wrapped in a hot, damp blanket. Our electric bills are higher in July/August to keep cool than in winter to keep warm.

Stick a thermometer outside in full sun any day of the year and it will peak at near 50 deg C.
Think about it - thats how solar water panels still work in the winter.

I can cope during the day in July/August but can't bear the heat in the evenings/night.

Yes I was the same, I'd have gladly added another 5 degrees to the already punishing day temperature in return for just 5 degrees less at night.
