Property prices - Sterling/lira?
« on: August 10, 2018, 20:13:18 PM »
I have no plans to purchase but was wondering why property for sale in Turkey is priced in Sterling?  How do Turkish people buy property in their own country when it is priced in sterling? Clearly the Turkish lira is worth so little currently.

I hadn't really thought about this before but I would be interested to know.  I have likened it (in my mind!) to the purchase prices in the UK being in Euros.

There's a huge amount of sterling tucked away in Turkey. We were told a few years ago that there were more £50 notes in Turkey than there were in the UK. I have no reason to disbelieve that after our dealings with local businesses.

Property prices in Fethiye tend to be priced in £s because a lot of the interest is from UK buyers. In Antalya, prices are advertised in Euros and often USD for the Russians.

I post ours in sterling or equivalent daily TL rate because the rate is changing almost every day, I originally posted at 350,000 tl but at the exchange rate today its around 530,000.
At first I changed the price every day but then linked it to sterling.
But bad news for us selling as the locals can not afford the TL price hike.
One withdrawal from sale last week.
