What a bloody embarrassment.
Article on the news today about Brits in Fethiye trying to learn Turkish and tazes from the villages trying to learn english. One woman only just managed with a huge struggle to say "I living Turkey 4 years". 4 years and still not able to hardly utter a word!! what a disgrace and yet the dear old ladies from the villages who have never been to the UK were learning quicker.
Then again the woman in question did have blonde hair and a scouse accent.

Gordon's Turkish is not to bad, I put is down to him being Scots and the gutteral (?) accent (bit like German (oh well I think i have now managed to insult every nation... ;))
Also, he tells me you have to have a good grasp of the English language to start with, so basically there is absolutely no hope for me at all. 8)
Turkish is a difficult language to learn, and now with most of the Turkish speaking English at you when out and about it makes it much harder.

My neighbour speaks no English, we converse, My Turkish is 'bok' but we can hold a conversation.
Yet I have friends from Istanbul, they laugh at the Fethiye (ites) you could say it is like us soft Southerners listening to Geordies accents. (upset more now, see what you have made me do!)

funnily enough I can sometimes pick out the regional accents in Brits when they speak Turkish.
Back on track though. I think there is no excuse to someone not knowing Turkish after being here for so long. I mean ffs I learnt from zero to conversational Turkish in 6 weeks and that was when I was living in Calis, although it was winter time, and there were no english channels back then apart from the greek one, and my teacher was living with me, oh and she was a blonde from Izmir.
