Sad news
« on: April 09, 2019, 15:37:09 PM »
It is with great sadness that I have to advise that Barrie Gray better known as Baznshir  on the forum, passed away early this morning. Barrie was taken ill whilst on a cruise in Egypt to celebrate wife Shirley's 80th birthday and died in hospital in Luxor.
Barrie was a well known character in Calis, a very talented artist and one of the 3C's most longstanding supporters, generously  donating many of his paintings and lots of other gifts to the Promises Auctions over the years. He was a good friend and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Shirley and his family at this sad time.

I heard just a little earlier from Anne Jenns. Barrie & Shirley were our round the corner neighbours for a number of years when we lived in Calis. We hadn't seen them for a while but bumped into them on the prom just last October when we were on hols. They were typically upbeat and enjoying things.

Thoughts are very much with Shirley right now...

Only had the pleasure of meeting them both for the first time last year.

R.I.P Barrie and sincere condolences to Shirley.

Barrie and I are heartbroken..We met them regularly for lunch as their home isn't far from us.. We have had some great nights out with them in Calis and some really good afternoons at their home..  Barrie did a wicked Tiramisu which he made for The Auction which raised 160 lira!! and lots of jewellery on top of the artwork that Chrissie mentioned.
We were due to meet them in two weeks to celebrate Shirley's birthday.
We will really miss him

Do you know, I had totally forgotten that. Legendary tiramisu maker he was - and back to the days when 160 lira was fifty quid or thereabouts :D

I have spoken to Shirley today and is coping but is understandably distressed... Barrie is going from Cairo to Dubai today and then to Lytham for a cremation. She has asked me to thank you for your kind words.
