Lamb kebab meat served over small cubes of bread with a tomato sauce and yoghurt  :)

And it's "Iskender"  ;)

Keith - beg to differ with you as the sauce is usually a paprika sauce made by mixing paprika in melted butter.  Its absolutely gorgeous and my favourite recipe

Have to side with Keith that the sauce is most definately tomato and not pepper,my husband is Turkish and he knows how they make it,the other one you spoke about is the one that is served on top of some types of soup.

Well this may be a different version of Iskender, but in our experience....Turkish(my husband) and myself,we have eaten this all over Turkey and it has never ever had a hint of Chilli in it anywhere,we would not eat it if it did and its our favourite.

I also don't recall detecting any paprika, although having a sauce with it mixed with melted butter also sounds good to me  :)

obviously a different version served in different parts of Turkey which is not unusual.  Had it lots of times but mainly in northern Turkey and it is gorgeous but it would be equally good with a tomato puree sauce.  I remember going to the most famous Iskender restaurant in Bursa which I was told is where it originated and theirs was to die for

You say tomato, I say erm, tomato :D

I'm sure you are right, there are regional variations for most things and I like the sound of both  :)
