I am more than a bit shocked :o :o at how much more accomodation is this year. Some increases are downright obscene. Curious to find out if any other members going to Calis this year has noticed the hike in hotel prices.
-
What sort of rise are we talking about here Toky? Just interested as we always recommend friends to come to Calis often tell them that Hotels are cheap.
-
Just a couple of examples Jacqui, Ceren hotel 2 weeks B&B £618, Golden Moon B&B £574 (more than £150 more tham last year), Ibrahim Bey B&B £618!!! Area B&B £875. Just outrageous for these (hardly luxurious) hotels :-\
-
Not sure if it's any help but my local Co Op Travel shop often has Turkey offers
in it's window. Yesterday a late April 10 day B&B Birmingham to Turkey, not sure which
resort, was £170 and didn't stipulate min number of people, which it sometimes does.

Toky - are these prices for package deals or just the hotel ? must admit they do seem high if it is just the hotel. We have been checking out prices for hotels in Spain for September/October and they seem very reasonable - might be time for a change.

I can never understand why people choose to stay in hotels when renting an apartment is so much cheaper and gives you so much more room and flexibility. We always rent an apartment, we have two bedrooms, (there is room to sleep 6) all mod cons. pool, towels and linen etc. The price in June is around £350 for 10 days, and you can get cheaper if you want something more basic. There is plenty of choice of places to rent in and around Calis, and we are always able to stay on in the apartment for our evening flight instead of being tipped out of our hotel room by 10am.

After 10 years of owning a property/living in Calis we stay in hotels (normally the Oykun) and it suits us just perfectly thanks. We like the 24 hour security, no great worry about coming home and finding the place ransacked, the fact that we walk downstairs each morning in leisurely fashion and someone else has sorted out breakfast and there is good banter between guests of many types.
To reply to the question - we book the Oykun direct and this year is the third year the price is exactly the same.
-
We stay in a small complex most apartments are owned by UK persons, next door are a couple who live there all year round who keep an eye on all apartments. Not heard of any apartments on complexes being ransacked, any more than hotel rooms being burgled. Each to his own, would not be narrow minded about anyone having an opinion.
-
Hotel v Apartment = horses for courses I reckon. Each to their own etc.
-
Well exactly - I can't understand all these people who can't understand what others do.
We are very happy indeed at our chosen hotel and don't even look at alternatives. I do however have the capacity to understand why others may prefer an apartment.

Quote one totally disproving quote two.

Our last perfect holiday was a frontline apartment next door to the Letoon. Best of both world , But not cheap. Back in 2013' I think the price was £350.0 per wk. apartment only.
-
Not just are your prices appearing to rise Toky, but if you are paying in sterling and the hotel converting to lira, they are making more than they used to - before putting the prices up a penny.
That's why I wasn't surprised that the Oykun quoted the same price again. Same price in sterling = many more liras than a couple of years back.
-
Hotel v Apartments. I know the Oykun have apartments too, so you get the best of both worlds.
I am surprised at the higher prices of Hotels in Calis. I always thought that the cheap hotels made up for the expensive flights, but now this will make it a really expensive holiday for some and maybe people start returning to Spain where it is very cheap.
-
Well Echogirl 1, up until this year, hotels including b&b were MUCH cheaper for us than renting private accomodation, so thats why we chose a hotel holiday. Christie, these prices are for accomodation only. I've already bought my flights. I think I'll email my usual hotel directly again. Oh and just to mention, 3 years ago we stayed at Tugay. £112 for 2 weeks B&B. This year £339! Just saying.
-
We are paying the Oykun, booking direct , same price this year as in the past 2 yrs, £ 140 per week in june B/B per room, includes safe ,
-
I love the Oyken. It was the first place we stayed in when we came to Calis. I just found the pool area too enclosed with little or no breeze around it and I just baked and felt chlaustrophobic. other than tha, it was perfect. If I went back, I fancied trying the self catering apartments.
-
Blimey. Those prices must have been quoted by Harrods. Check out asdatravel and Sunshine.co.uk. Which sights to you view Toky ?
-
Anyone who believes accommodation in Spain is cheaper than Turkey/Calis is living on another planet I'm afraid.

They are very good and good value. All on the 4th floor though - you need strong legs :)

I don't think anyone has even said that.
-
We know people who went to Spain last year and they paid a lot less than we do to fly to Turkey.
We also had offers from Thomson and Thomas Cook for Spanish holidays that were unbelievably cheap.
In fact, just looked at one offer from Gatwick for a week self catering in Spain £129.00 each flights included.
-
Based on experience rather than just making claims I can tell you that for a family of four the equation is not about how much flights are or accommodation is. Flights + accommodation (together) are pretty much the same to Turkey and to Spain. Turkey cheap accommodation expensive flights Spain cheap flights more expensive accommodation. But the sum of the two parts is almost identical.
So then it comes to prices for food, drink, alcohol and the like and I can tell you that anyone who thinks Turkey is cheaper is perhaps living on the other planet mentioned, or living in the past.
-
I have just got an amazing deal to stay at the Nevada with Sunshine.co.uk. Bed and breakfast including flights and hold luggage.
As a lone traveller, taking an apartment is out of the question for me as the price is just too expensive for one.
-
Interesting thread. I think Scunner hit the nail on the head with his last comment.
We have a place in Turkey so I do not keep tabs of the cost of rental/hotels but I can tell you that Portugal and Spain both offer at least as cheap, if not cheaper food and drink.... and if you like wine ... no contest ;)
-
We're going to Mojacar Spain for a week in June, on the beach, 4 star hotel All Inclusive, sea view, just under £400 each, incl flights, we don't often do AI however also went to Egypt for a week a couple of weeks ago, 5 star AI, amazing hotel 6 a la carte restaurants £377 each, incl flights. We had hoped to get to Calis in August but its looking doubtful now, we will be 1st time grandparent 23rd!!! However we are going for a fortnight in October to Mexico which has cost a small fortune, i do think Turkey isn't as attractive financially as it used to be, still love it though :)

We are doing both this year, spending our last 5 nights in a Hotel, because the apartment wanted far too much for 5 nights, got a hotel on the front B&B, for less than half the price, having said that we paid £750 1 week last year for an apartment in Alcudia, but as has been said the flights were much cheaper, so it's swings and roundabouts really, oh hang, no its not, the wine was cheap in Spain, lol. ;)
